Finally watched Ben-Hur
It was...pretty good! I can't help but compare it to Lawrence of Arabia since they're classic, stupidly long epics. I liked Lawrence a lot more
But it was still undeniably good. I just liked the production a lot more than the story overall. The infamous chariot scene was great on every level, especially that crazy stunt work. I have no idea how they did some of that stuff, it holds up really well
Music was great, Heston was great. The near 4 hour length didn't bother me. I thought I'd have more to say after a 4 hour classic but I don't really. Overall good stuff

Watcehd Eigth Grade last week. It was ok. Nothing special. It did hit me that my oldest is 8 and that will be her in 6 years so that does scare me a bit.
Took kids to see Ugly Dolls yesterday. It's awful. Just truely awful. They loved it, but it is Emoji Movie bad. |

I watched Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I liked it more than any of the other ones. The stories are always the same-ish, but this one had no annoying characters. The closest is that BB-8 rollie droid.
I do have a question though. I'll put it in spoilers.

...do Luke and Leia, Vader's children, turn out fine, but his grandson is evil? None of them grew up under Anakin's influence. I wouldn't have even thought about it, if Han Solo had not said about Kylo Ren that "there's some Vader in him". Luke and Leia have some Vader in them, even more probably, being his own children. |

Paddington 1 & 2
good god these movies were the definition of DELIGHTFUL, they were like 100 minute long hugs. They sorta felt like slightly more family friendly Wes Anderson movies (especially the 2nd). I actually thought the first one was a bit better for the most part but THAT ENDING of 2 pulled it even

i saw brightburn today

i kind of loved it? the ending was great because i really expected a happy ending and they really pulled the rug out from under me. i wish they didn't rely so heavily on so many different horror movie trope moments, but past that -- i thought the story was fun and the acting was p good. FUN TIME! |

Casablanca
It was...whatever. I get why it's a classic but it really didn't do much at all for me. I don't really have anything to say about it tbh, everything was fine but nothing was great

TSOW was perfectly fine wtf
I did actually notice and found it an ODD COINCIDENCE how you could connect both movies to Shape of Water. The first with the flooded bathroom and the second with Hawkins diving in after Paddington

No it wasn’t it stunk. STUNK!
Jacob and I can’t stand to watch Hawkins now and couldn’t get it out of our head that she wanted to fuck Paddington as well throughout both movies. And Godzilla. I hate that one face she makes in everything

Ryan Reynolds, Melissa McCarthy and Hope Davis were all in a movie together in 2007 that I had never heard of before, called The Nines.
I'm in the middle of watching it. It's weird but I kind of love it. Kind of twilight-zoney.

The Shape of Water
Didn't really do it for me :( . I kept waiting for more but more never came. Really liked Richard Jenkins (I like him in everything), but I thought Sally Hawkins' performance was a bit overrated tbh, I'm surprised its been so award worthy. HATE TO SAY IT. I wanted to like it going in cause I loved the trailer and the Bioshock vibes. And I like del toro. It just didn't work for me, I felt absolutely no emotion from start to finish. I think all the parts were there for something better but the tone was just off |

I didn't really LOVE it but I thought it was a perfectly SOLID/pleasant movie. The art direction was great, characters were pretty good (especially Shannon's), and I liked the whole modern fairy tale vibe of it
It was a bit overrated but I'd be hard-pressed to call any of it bad

True Romance - Loved it. It was cool to see a Tarantino script directed by someone else. The movie knew it was goofy and didn't care at all, it just played it all up. A couple of really standout scenes and one of the best casts I can think of. Lots of great actors did a ton with tiny side roles
