Primate said he wasn't damaged that night if I recall correctly.

Correct, I wasn't told I was blocked and Primate said he wasn't damaged and he didn't use his evasion skill. So someone else took my attack.

i just had a lulzy theory about the hammer. what if it auto attacks all the people who tired to claim it but failed?

In the video game version, the hammer is used to hand out massive damage/death to everyone around them.

So it's probably a day kill or a PGO ability.
