If Cruise did a serial killer, he'd have to be the cheeseballiest, coolest smiling serial killer. |
the movie you're (sorta) describing is Collateral which he was v good in

watch Tropic Thunder and tell me Cruise is one note |
I like Stiller but that movie was so bad I blocked much of it out. |
I couldn't get into it at all, let alone finish it. Not a ben stiller fan, though.

Not at all. Tom Cruise sucks, Tropic Thunder was pretty bad and Annihilation was the most stilted movie I'd seen in awhile, and I like a lot of the actors. Dude did a great job with Ex Machina but I think he wants everyone to act like robots, which doesn't work well in a movie like Annihilation. Plus there were so many WTF moments- the most boring sex scene ever (Portman and the professor looked so fucking bored during it that it was hard to care), Issac's character suddenly has a random Southern accent, the stupid mirror image alien thing. The concept could have been really interesting, but it fell flat. Hell, I haven't seen such a token lesbian element thrown in since Haunting of Hill House. | How can you have any pudding if you won't eat your meat? |

watched the new Fyre documentary on Netflix, good stuff. I was a bit skeptical going in that it'd be able to bring too much more to light than what has already been on social media for a while but there were way more interesting angles to it than I thought, mostly all the stuff about Billy McFarland who's apparently like a poor man's Jordan Belfort
The same director behind this also made Jim & Andy, definitely two of the most purely entertaining documentaries I've seen in a while

Won’t You Be My Neighbor
Pretty good. Didn’t really know how much Fred did for kids during his whole life. He was a modern day saint
A Simple Favor
Very good thriller. Blake Lively is awesome as usual and Anna Kendrick does a really good job as well |

Just finished watching Bird Box.
|
It was.. alright? I guess.
The premise was fun and there were some fun moments but overall it fell kind of flat? And the writing was rough and cliche. But the acting was really good in it?! Just bad dialogue. I don't think I'd watch it again but it was fun for what it was. Just kind of unoriginal. |

I had a lot of anticipation for this with how much hype it was getting but... eh. Acting was great. Bullock, Malkovich and Rhodes were all very very good. The majority of the movie with the house scenes didn't seem any different from your standard confined space horror. I liked the drive to the grocery store and boat scenes but other than that, it wasn't anything special. I absolutely hated the Gary character and him killing everyone but Tom and Malorie within a few minutes was pretty dumb for such an obvious twist of him being bad.
I actually really liked the happy ending and it helped redeem itself a bit with it. Movies like this tend to have really shitty depressing twists at the end and I was bracing for it here. |
|
Agreed with both of you. I thought it was pretty dumb
|
Just like, super empty/hollow/emotionless. The least thrilling thriller and the least scary horror movie I've seen in a bit. No suspense and not much heart at all
They could've had way more fun with the concept. Like the GPS/car scene was the closest example but ultimately even that scene went no where and wasn't interesting at all, nothing came out of it and it really wasn't suspenseful. Whole movie was like that
Also thought they did such a bad job showing the passage of time at the first house. That kinda threw me. Stuff like the new..couple..running away together, naming them girl/boy, Charlie and Tom's unnecessary sacrifice. All just pretty dumbbbbb. Agreed that Gary just wiping them out was stupid too
I like Rhodes a lot so it had that going for it
5/10 |

Good Time - good
Roma - also good. Can't help but feel it was less than the sum of its parts but I guess Cuaron wasn't going for anything GRANDIOSE with this one. The birth scene and the beach scene were incredible (in vry different ways) though

Watched secrets of war. I dislike subtitles, but really enjoyed the universality of kids being kids.
Really good flick. | |
