Good stuff. Some kinda silly choices and not much characterization but it was solid overall. The ending is p impactful

I watched Mission Impossible - Fallout
It was pretty good. Then I decided to watch Mission Impossible - Rogue Nation. idk why I'm going backwards but I really like this series.
I really love Tom Cruise as an actor even though I think he's a "wacky" person. |
I've said it before but I can't stand Tom Cruise's acting- he basically plays Tom Cruise every time. Simon Pegg almost makes MI watchable. Almost. |
You didn't love Risky Business when you were a kid? |
That was one of the early Tom Cruise films, where he had slightly more range (like playing different in Taps). Then he was Maverick, then he became Maverick but instead of a pilot, he was a bartender. Then he was Maverick but driving a race car. Rinse, repeat. |
Born on the 4th of july?
far and away?
RAIN MAN?
he did GREAT stuff back in the days, agreed though he became shallow and pedantic at some point
I blame scientology/hollywood | "There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die."

"TAKE A STEP BACK..." - I laughed so fuckin loud at that. the whole interaction between him and mcconnehi (fuck his lastname) was VERY amusing to watch | "There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Good movie. Young Cameron Diaz and Harvey Keitel. |

If Beale Street Could Talk
good stuff, it felt a bit play-like at times while still being really well shot. Wasn't quite as great as Moonlight but definitely a very solid follow-up

Saw The Upside a few days ago. Went in with super low expectations because critics were destroying it but I thought it was fine. |

I had a lot of anticipation for this with how much hype it was getting but... eh. Acting was great. Bullock, Malkovich and Rhodes were all very very good. The majority of the movie with the house scenes didn't seem any different from your standard confined space horror. I liked the drive to the grocery store and boat scenes but other than that, it wasn't anything special. I absolutely hated the Gary character and him killing everyone but Tom and Malorie within a few minutes was pretty dumb for such an obvious twist of him being bad.
I actually really liked the happy ending and it helped redeem itself a bit with it. Movies like this tend to have really shitty depressing twists at the end and I was bracing for it here. |

IMO they shouldn't have included the mad people, they only made it worse and generic, they could have had it more about survival and the psychological effects of it, like made the other mom try to kill her unborn child or people just deciding to end it all. How do you stay sane in a world like that after months or years with that looming threat?
Everything else was great I think, loved the monster concept and the atmosphere.
I also liked the ending, I was dreading having to watch her feeling the girl's and boy's corpses.

Paddington - charming af 7/10
|
Paddington 2 - even more charming af. More creatively directed and a better villain in High Grant. The rare near perfect sequel. 8/10

I would actually argue that Simon Pegg plays Simon Pegg in every time more often than Cruise plays Cruise (:
Not to bag on Pegg because I like him a lot, but there are many people who are far more one-note than Cruise. Especially other action stars |
He's doing comedy so he plays that way, much as Tom Hanks used to only do comedy. It's hard to believe that anymore, of course, given Hanks' career.
If Pegg did a serial killer, we'd likely get disturbed. If Cruise did a serial killer, he'd have to be the cheeseballiest, coolest smiling serial killer. | How can you have any pudding if you won't eat your meat? |
