I need everyone that has seen this to weigh in with their thoughts. I've watched this before, but this time watching it really stuck with me. Despite the depraved subject matter (or maybe because of it? it's something not exactly touched on in many movies) I found myself really hooked into it.
Anyone that hasn't seen it, it's about a PI (Nic Cage) being hired by a wealthy widow to investigate what appears to be a snuff film that was found after cleaning out her late husband's belongings. He teams up with a porn store clerk (Joaquin Phoenix) who acts as Virgil to Cage's Dante as they probe the dark underbelly of pornography. Things do not go smoothly.
I remembered the broad strokes of how it played out, but not the steps to get there. I thought everyone was fantastic in their role (except maybe Peter Stormare? Love him but he was HAMMIN' IT UP).
Cue surprise when I look online and find out it is basically HATED BY EVERYONE. | |
