He met a need that was out there, some would say he exploited women to do so, but in the end he would have failed today because anyone who wants free porn has access to it. I also thought his taste in women was a bit off for me.

Real talk he did a lot of good, his liberal journalism and launching forward of the sexual revolution. Sure, he objectified women, but that's the industry he was in. And it wasn't even to the extent that pornography was, pretty sure old Playboy magazines were pretty tame. Hell, I'd call some of the early work more art than pornography. It's not like he forced any of the women to be part of his brand, they all had their own choice. Hell the guy was pretty liberal, he supported same sex marriage. He also provided NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) their initial funding and continued to fund them. Being like aww yee piece of shit cuz he sold dem titty pics is really lazy and short sighted thinking.

LOL- I'm just saying it's no big deal. He got rich off of porn. He slept with a bunch of women. That's great for him. But a lot of it isn't really going to have a lasting effect. Hell, Playboy mag is stopping nude picts, knowing that's a dime a dozen with the net now days.

With the death of a lot of other "big" people, they make some sort of difference that goes on after them. Maybe they were an iconic actor or director that you can go back and still love their movies and have them touch you. Or a music artist whose music continues to be played long after their death. Or a high government official who literally made changes happen.

In the end, The Hef is likely to be forgotten ten years from now, if it takes that long. His impact was immediate, but not lasting*.


*- And yes, I tried desperately to avoid a sex joke here.
