Welcome to the crumbling of our democracy. Fuck Sinclar Broadcast Group and fuck Ajit Pai.
This is literally a propaganda machine. More effective than FOX as it trojan horses it's way into people's living rooms via channels/news anchors that they previous trust.
They literally hired a guy from RT (Russia's Propaganda TV station) to produce a must run segment about the "deep state".
Eh, I don't think this is anything new. I remember seeing similar compilations years ago of news anchors seemingly reading from the same script despite been part of different networks.
I think a big problem with it is related to the script itself. Sinclair is a right-leaning corp, so it buys up all the local news outlets, then has them tell you all the other big news organizations are left-leaning propaganda for the "deep-state", which has lead to the rise of the "don't trust the MSM" bullshit everywhere.
How can you have any pudding if you won't eat your meat?
I just don't think this is new. News organisations have always been biased and many serve as nothing but propaganda. There are some good outlets obviously, but you'd be hard pressed to find one that isn't at least slightly biased one way or the other (and it's perfectly naturally for any outlet to be slightly biased)
Can't agree that the 'don't trust the MSM' stuff is bullshit though. So many outlets peddle nothing but propaganda, right and left. A common tactic seems to be lying by omission. Two outlets can report the same story, but paint a completely different picture of events by omitting key facts.
I think the only way to get past it all is to get your news from multiple sources.
And there are plenty of new sources online. I know it's controversial, but Alt Media is one such source. It's hugely popular and growing all the time, seemingly at the expense of the traditional media.
Not to say there aren't peddlers of bullshit online too (some of them are the worst offenders). I think the same principle applies, listen to as many different perspectives as possible, and hopefully that way you'll get the most accurate version of events.
Tbh, I don't really subscribe to the view that we live in especially bad times when it comes to fake news. I don't buy this notion that we live in 'Post Truth' times or any of that. If anything, we live in a time when anyone can inform themselves on a subject if they are willing to dig deep enough. The internet has freed us in that regard. We're not confined to Newspapers or TV anymore.
Actually, the "don't trust the MSM" stuff *is* bullshit. See, what many people fail to realize is that while individual reporters/writers/journalists may have a left bent, lots of their editors who make way more cash often have a more right bent. In addition the "left-leaning media" card gets pulled out so much that many of these same "left-leaning news orgs" fall over themselves to report more right-leaning so as not to appear biased. This leads to ridiculous stuff like how in the 2000 presidential election news orgs fell over themselves to portray Al Gore as "wooden" or "stiff".

Wrong.
All modern news is produced to pander to an audience with a specific set of views. Be they left, right, or whatever. Objectivity in journalism has always been a salesjob. It's a business, ffs. Not some altruistic entity that gives a fuck about the truth.

The "business" side is the editors, who tend to make more cash and focus on ways to earn that cash. They are way more conservative than the journalists. In fact, if I can find the media watch guy who used to be online in the early aughts, he spent a lot of time showing how the 2000 election was going to be a slam dunk for the Dems up until the media editors decided to make it a "contest".
There's plenty of stuff out there talking about the inside workings of news agencies, especially the divergence between reporters' beliefs and those of their editors- in the end, the editors always win.
