Saw Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Ant Man & the Wasp yesterday.
|
Ant-Man somehow finds a way to be funny and feel good despite PRETTY low stakes. Like the main conflict in the movie is very thin and almost meaningless. But the actors carry it and the dialogue. Michael Pena (I think that's his name) steals any scene he's in. Very fun movie even if you're not into MCU or the superhero genre.

I have yet to see literally ANY Jurassic movies (even the OG) but I went to watch Fallen Kingdom on a whim. I ended up enjoying it a lot. Chris Pratt plays the somewhat douchey jock with a good heart well. Personally thought the little british girl was great. Both the main dinosaurs Blue and Gold (whatever his name was ) were great. Villain was generic and uninspiring but overall solid movie.

My double feature in a couple weeks |
Skip Jurassic world. It’s really bad. Watch tag instead |

A Clockwork Orange
prettyyyyy good. A lot of stuff I liked, not much that I flat out disliked. Some really instantly iconic scenes. The use of music was the best part of the movie for me
It was WAY different than what I thought it’d be. I really didn’t know much going in at all which is weird for how popular it is, but I assumed it was gonna be closer to what the first half hour was. I had no idea the bulk of it was about his jailing and reformation, that really surprised me. Second half was good but I liked the first chunk better, I wish it was more about the crimes of the foursome and that society, I really liked the look of the four as classic villains. Some of those opening moments were brutal and fucked up
I’m probably at a 7/10
Our Letterboxd ratings are funny and show how divisive the movie is:
Jacob: 8
Havo: 1
Miko: 10
JJ: 5
Boc: 6
Curtis: 7

I don't think I've ever met two people who have the same opinion about Clockwork Orange.

I went to see Clockwork Orange when it was on Broadway and it was just a collection of beefed up shirtless men in suspenders. Easy to say it was a good experience.

I’m a big believer in “To each his Own”. If people actually enjoy watching this, then more power too them. But I’d rather watch a monkey screw a hole in a fence than this movie. I would have given it a lower number if I could have. I truly don’t understand how someone could fund this. Straight garbage IMO.

This Is Spinal Tap
p. funny. Would've been funnier if I came from that generation and saw it back then I'm sure but there were still some moments that made me laugh out loud. Lick My Love Pump was maybe my favorite quick moment
Fun seeing Michael McKean in a lead role, he's pretty great. Ed Begley Jr. is another great OH THAT GUY character actors so I was glad to see him credit so high but he ended up being just one of the many drummers who died (:
The classic 11 bit was good but a bit short/underwhelming from how I imagined it would be
Just read that the movie was mostly improvised which does make me appreciate it more |
That movie was hilarious to stoned teenage me. It's still pretty funny now, but not as funny.

It's got social commentary (including Primate-appreciated leftie = rightie in the end), it has desensitization to violence in society, it has anti-behavioral psychology arguments. I very much enjoy this movie. It also set up later works like Man Bites Dog which is one of the ultimate desensitization to violence films (and was ironically banned in a number of countries for its portrayal of violence when that was part of the point of the film). You can enjoy a film even if it isn't an easy film to watch.
