Heat

A handful of really great standout scenes but also a whole lot of wasted space. I wish it was far shorter and the cliche side stuff was cut. Still good but not amazing

They Live

in an effort to watch more John Carpenter

Goofy as hell. More comedy and action than horror (not at all what I expected but I knew very little about it). Features the most drawn out fist fight scene I've ever witnessed. Also one very great and very sudden stunt

I should've loved it overall but I didn't. And that piece of music that played throughout really bothered me. I guess that's how people felt during Carpenter's The Thing - that bit of score that played consistently really drove people crazy and they all made fun of it which is wild to me since it's so great

Obvious Child
+
Slow West

Two fairly average A24 movies (average compared to other A24's). Both were good. I like Jenny Slate (Obvious Child) and Fassbender is really good in Slow West. Ben Mendelsohn is wasted tho

Watched Game Night over the weekend. It was blah and not really that good.

Watched The Avengers this week at the gym. Such a good movie. I love when Cap tells Hulk to smash and Thor not knowing "earth" things and being confused and not understanding things added humor. Watching this made me realize how much better it is then Ultron and Infinity War.

The gf has been waiting for game night forever. Thst usually meansit won't be good
Rodney is a great guy. Oops, nevermind he's a terrible human being.
He likes his sandwiches to be Turkey and Swiss. Triangle cut. Let vern have his crust. Poison the part Rodney eats.

Finally watched The Fly

GOOD. Great body horror, some really gross but comedic parts of him just totally falling apart. It was really kinda...sad. The whole situation is super fucked up, I felt bad for all three people involved by the end of it. I also loved the note it ended on. It was not uplifting whatsoever

Which version? The original was good, but goldblum made the remake great.

I did see it as more tragedy than horror, though.

Event Horizon

It was...fine. I love space horror and heard this was very twisted and hellish and gory. It didn't really do it for me in those departments, probably just because I've seen it all done before by now. I liked the ideas and the vibe but would've liked it more if they really cranked it up. Some good set pieces tho and Fishburne was the best

Finally watched Rogue One, since my wife is done with SW now that Disney bought it and the son already saw it with a buddy (and so I watched it half on the plane and the rest here before our reception.

Southbound

A hit and miss horror anthology from most of the VHS people. Four segments that all connect briefly. Two were good, two were whatever

Christian watched The Martian last week and that triggered my memory that I have wanted to watch that forever so I finally did.

I really liked it. Very enjoyable.
