The basic plot is, I think (I've generally avoided reading explanations), that Kris and Jeff were both WORM'd by the Thief (as he's called in the credits). The worms go through the people to the pigs, and establish an empathic connection to the people (much like the kids at the beginning of the movie).
The Sampler, while not a bad guy, struck me as somebody totally incapable of understanding empathy. There's a bit where he watches as a guy's girlfriend goes to the hospital (presumably through the pigs, because I think they show up at the farm at the end) and he also views their break-up, many times over. He constantly looked alienated in his few interactions with people, and his handling of the pigs would seem to show some frustration.
By the way, that was the period of the movie I liked best, where Kris and Jeff started reacting aggressively to their surroundings as the pigs were locked up. It just felt transcendent.
Overall my favorite movie of the year. A very interesting, if vague, story (that I won't claim to totally understand because I have to see it again) and it's such a powerful and hypnotic experience unlike anything I've ever seen.
One interpretation I did read however posited that

the PARASITIC WORMS THAT WERE USED TO CONTROL PEOPLE AND STEAL MONEY were actually symbolic of Carruth's dealings with Hollywood (:
Also I didn't quite get how they figured out what was up. It was obvious that a mystery was being SOLVED and that the plotlines were converging but I need to watch again to understand why

Yep, that's about what I got out of it.

Also that the organism is part of a never-ending cycle of life. Nematode --> Human Host --> Pig --> Orchid --> Nematode over and over again. Until Kris breaks the cycle that is.
And yeah, I'm really not sure how she figured it out. I kinda just chalked it up to her collective consciousness with the organism. Like when she was tugging on that plant at the bottom of the pool, she was "remembering" all of the sounds of the Sampler. So she just "knew" where to go and was able to trace her way back.
As for the scene where Jeff is eating dinner and the Sampler walks in...I have no idea what to make of that.
yeah it was the CONVERGENCE that got me. There are clearly many literal and symbolic layers to unpack in that and then Kris shooting him but I don't quite know yet.
Also seeing this in a theater was pretty cool BUT in front of me there was a group of old people who spent the whole time cracking wise at the movie. In all fairness they came in late (about the part where Kris first gets knocked out) but they shouldn't be saying shit like I REALLY DON'T WANT THIS GUY TO MAKE ANOTHER MOVIE HAHA
I just finished Timecrimes since I'm on a time travel movie binge. Enjoyed it a lot. There was some creative stuff in there. I love paradoxes and all that
FIRST OF ALL, that was probably the worst movie watching experience of my life. I streamed it, and for every 5 seconds I watched it buffered for 10. It was so frustrating. Took me five hours to watch a 90 minute movie and I had to spread it out between last night and today. Also the dialogue was too soft to hear half the time. Not sure if it was supposed to be like that or not, but it was annoying. Kinda put a damper on the whole thing.
BUT, I liked it. Very interesting. I don't really even wanna try to analyze it plot wise. I feel like that's not the point. It's kinda like trying to analyze a dream which it's all entirely up to interpretation. If I had to boil it down to a theme or the point of the movie, I'd say it was about shared human experiences bringing people closer together. The two were worm'd and had this awful thing happen to them, but that's why they connected. Damanged goods. I GUESS. That's what I got out of it
The guy is a really good filmmaker. He literally created every aspect of the movie himself. Writer director editor actor producer sound composer etc. Pretty crazy. I love that he's not afraid to do his own thing
what movie are BOC and HUPU talking about?! TRANCE?
"There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die."

That's why I always let movies buffer for like an hour before I watch them!
And yeah, I had that problem with the dialogue too. I missed a few lines here and there. A lot of the movie was about visuals/sound though so it didn't have a huge effect. I think the last 30 minutes were completely devoid of dialogue.
I actually read an interview where he says there IS a single interpretation he has intended for the movie. It's like a puzzle where you have to figure out what's real and what's not (like was the Sampler really in that room with Jeff at the end? etc) and how it all fits together. I imagine you'd have to watch it a bunch of times to figure it all out though.

I think the characters were physically LINKED to the pigs. The Sampler and that other guy were talking about how those two pigs weren't letting anyone else near them and were panicked. At the same time, the two main characters were running through the house and barricaded themselves in the bathroom. They didn't know WHY they were doing that. It was because the pigs were doing it
Kris' pig was pregnant so she started feeling hormonal. She went to the doctor and the doctor told her she could not be pregnant etc.
When the sampler played his sounds around the pigs, the person they were connected to could hear them and were effected by them, and the sampler appeared where they were. He wasn't actually there. Like the random couple. Also evident by Kris being driven mad by a noise under the house. It was the running water that the drowned pigs were in that she was hearing
Yeah that all sounds about right. Do you have any theory as to

how Kris found the Sampler?
Somehow they started to figure out what was going on through the music. Kris urged Jeff to buy a car, and that led them to the mailbox with his record label on it. Then that led Jeff to the CD's. Through that they were able to find him
I think when Jeff was eating and the Sampler was observing him, Jeff had somehow lured him there in order to trick him. That's when Kris showed up and killed the Sampler. Something like that
It all has to do with the Sampler's draw from his music. He was able to play music from the ground and lure them to him. That's how he de-worms them in the first place, like we saw with Kris. He led her right to him
Kris touching the flowers in the pool was a huge trigger I think. Her memories started to come back at that point. She might have remembered the farm where the Sampler had first led her to at that moment
Naturally she assumed the Sampler was the Thief. I'm not so sure the Sampler was too guilty of anything. He might have been trying to help tbh, but of course she didn't know that. She never saw the Thief's face
So once her memory came back of the farm, I'm pretty sure Jeff got the Sampler to 'visit' him to distract him, which is why he was sitting on the ground at the farm when Kris got there. Then she could easily kill him thinking he was the Thief
I re-watched FRESH and OUTRAGE last night. Awesome movies.
Today I watched a surreal pyscho thriller comedy drama.....at work. for 9 hours...lol that movie....damn
