Watched the Florida project.

It may be the worst movie I've ever seen.

If you have to choose between watching this and eating shit, choose the shit.

wait, what?! explain!

No characters are ever developed. No story is told, no points are made, no ending is achieved. It's basically a collection of poorly thought out images.

It's like a movie length Sally Struthers commercial: "A dollar a day will feed a white trash kid"

Da fuck did you watch? The whole movie was about a struggling mother trying to make ends meet for her daughter. They definitely developed the little girls character as well as the mom.

The mother wasn't struggling. She was a worthless piece of shit. No development at all. No why. No "hey, I'm a piece of shit " realization.

The little girl had a little more depth. They started to develop the handyman, but got sidetracked.

I'd say the final scene with the girl is a definite pay-off, it's heart-breaking and everything that the movie was building towards was released in one heart-breaking burst of emotion.

Plus, it's supposed to be a 'slice-of-life' film, it's not supposed to have a clear structure as that's not how life realistically works. Sean Baker is a really great humanist filmmaker that has a great grasp on human emotion and reality in general. It may not be your cup of tea (because it's a really uncomfortable and confrontational watch), but calling it shit is a stretch if I ever read one.

I disagree on all counts.

I also didn't mean to give the impression that I thought it was shit. It was much, much worse than that.

I do agree that calling it shit would be a stretch. It wasn't nearly good enough to be called shit.

Watched The Last Jedi last night. It's good, but not great. I have my doubts on the next film with the death of Carrie Fischer.

I watched All the Money in the World. 7.5/10

It’s the true story of the kidnapping of oil tycoon John Paul Getty’s grandson in the early ‘70’s. Was a very good and interesting story. Could have been better with a better cast. Christopher Plummer was great as the old greedy oil man and Michelle Williams was ok. Mark Wahlberg was the weakest link and he did pretty good IMO. Not knowing the story was a help.

I watched Snatch 8.0/10

Was about my fourth or fifth time around. This movie is so funny. The cast is lights out and the pace is perfect.

Smiley Face (2007) - a Gregg Araki film about a stoner who has too much pot-cupcakes, which in result makes her logic not make any fuckin sense. The movie is entirely from her perspective as her priorities change on a dime and each time it changes, the new priority is an URGENT matter, but during her surreal senseless trip through LA, she meanwhile unintentionally screws people over. It's fucking hilarious as a stoner comedy, but damn, once you come to the realization that she's basically in a totally drugged out mindset and is kind of ruining her own life you kind of start to feel bad that you're laughing at whats happening on screen. Still thought it was the funniest movie I saw in a while despite feeling kinda bad afterwards, lol.

I'm just a sucker for Gregg Araki. It definitely isn't a movie for everyone though. Because yeah, the movie doesn't make any sense and it just kinda floats around until its over. It's the type of comedy that's hard for a lot of peeps to appreciate and not see as a complete waste of time. Kinda like how people thought of Inherent Vice for example.

Day #3 of my Gregg Araki marathon..
The Doom Generation (1995)

Man, talk about a strange film. I absolutely adore this though - even though a lot of the dialogue is really fucking cheesy, it more than makes up for it in it's direction; the stylized gore, the wacky color palette, the zany narrative structure and just general lucidness of the film makes it almost seem like a really strange dream. It really does grow on you..

That final scene was so fucking trippy and the gore included was very unsettling. The final shot though together with 'Blue Skied an' Clear' by Slowdive playing in the background was so fucking haunting and just made me stare at the screen in this sort of shocked trance while the credits were rolling. Araki sure knows how to hit all the right chords when it comes to making effective final scenes!

This is definitely my favorite in his Teen Apocalypse trilogy. <3
