I just broke my thumb and now it can no longer touch any finger tips. It has suddenly become an un-thumb.

But amazingly, it is still a finger! It's like my definition is superior in every way!

But they did. They just used the fingers that are called thumbs.

Again, you are doing the same mistake as the hot dog sandwich argument. Something can be both a sandwich and a hot dog. Something can be a finger and a thumb. Your pancreas can be both a pancreas and an internal organ. Unless it got removed.

Nothing can be both a finger and a thumb because they are two separate types of digits that both just so happen to be on the hand!

By your estimation. Pretty much everyone else in the world says they have ten fingers. My simple definition covers that. What you have done is tried to make it not a finger, so the onus is on you to come up with a simple definition that makes a thumb not a finger. You haven't done it, needing to come up with more and more complex ways to make the thumb a non-finger while still keeping the big toe a toe. The only thing that makes the thumb special is it being opposable, but as I've shown before, opposable toes on animals like chimps are usually still called "toes". In addition, the thumb is called an "opposable thumb", making the opposable part not the only defining characteristic, leading you to more and more elaborate explanations.

It's a finger. It's a special finger, but still a finger. If you take a toe and put it on your hand in the same way, it becomes a thumb, as surgical procedures have shown- more so, they have worked to make it so it is cosmetically almost indistinguishable.

It's a finger. You're still a human, even if we don't call you "DS Human". It is not required to call the classification something out in the name in order for it to belong to that classification, even if other similar things in that classification do so. A hoagie is still a sandwich, even if few people call it a hoagie sandwich.

A thumb is an opposable digit on the hand with the ability to touch the tips of all of the fingers on the same hand.
