There are some awesome lines, though:
"Don't say 'And stuff'. Just say anal!"

The Shape of Water
Didn't really do it for me :( . I kept waiting for more but more never came. Really liked Richard Jenkins (I like him in everything), but I thought Sally Hawkins' performance was a bit overrated tbh, I'm surprised its been so award worthy. HATE TO SAY IT. I wanted to like it going in cause I loved the trailer and the Bioshock vibes. And I like del toro. It just didn't work for me, I felt absolutely no emotion from start to finish. I think all the parts were there for something better but the tone was just off

I'm really surprised people are saying this is del Toro's best movie too, Pan's Labyrinth far surpasses it imo

aaaaaaaand also hate to say it but the other big movie that disappointed me (not nearly as much as Shape of Water tho)
Lady Bird
B+. I liked it and I loved parts and there was nothing I hated. I just didn't fall in love with it like so many others did. It feels like a movie where your enjoyment level is gonna depend on how much you can relate to all the different elements (mother/daughter dynamic, the hometown, catholic school, college process, high school dating, etc.) and some of them were there for me but most just weren't. There wasn't a lot that was speaking to me personally, some subtle stuff here and there but overall I didn't connect
Best part of the movie was the mother/daughter relationship. And Saoirse Ronan was great (so were both parents). And I really like Lucas Hedges. And I'm excited to see more from Greta Gerwig and she did really great. Just never reached stellar levels for me. Best part was Lucas Hedges breaking down in the alley and Ladybird breaking down while her mom was doing dishes

It sorta reminded me of Manchester by the Sea in a way. Each one relying pretty heavily on their locations and you could really feel like the characters were molded by growing up there. I just obviously gravitated way more towards Manchester than this

As someone from neither of those areas, Lady Bird was way better to me
Also I definitely think you're gonna like Three Billboards the most out of this year's award movies

Nah I haven't. That and Call Me By Your Name are the big ones I haven't seen yet, more interested in the latter though. I kinda got the same "meh" impression from Shape's trailers

Watched something called The Lazarus Effect last night. Great concept, terrible execution. Huge gaps, mediocre acting, blah ending.

DING DING DING!
It was so good. It beats Lady Bird, Disaster Artist, and especially Shape of Water for me. (Get Out might still hold my heart tho)
But yeah I loved it. Best ensemble of the year hands down, every single person was so good. Really brutally sad at times, really hilarious at times. McDormand and Rockwell both deserved their wins
I was gonna say the scene with Rockwell...crossing the street might've been my favorite but there are too many great ones to choose from

Logan Lucky
v. fun. Didn't realize until afterwards that it was a Soderbergh movie, explains the Ocean's Eleven vibes I got throughout it. Just purely entertaining throughout
