so after getting chased down by zombie dogs and winning a fistfight against a lumberjack only for some pussy zombie to ambush me while I'm looting his corpse, things finally start looking up when I find the first signs of civilization all game. I ran towards them as happy as could be, mockingly hopping past the zombies on the way, only to be immediately blown into a crater just as I reach their perimeter

I think you were outside of a military base. Pretty sure minefields are only around those, they aren't very common | |
