LOL- I'll have to come back when some of my work sites aren't on virtual fire, but I've found that a lot of newer music tends to be "meh". I keep hoping that their will be some new reaction against what's going on in the world musically, like punk, new wave, etc., but I have to agree with Gavin Friday, who in an interview said something like:
"No, I don't hate new music. I just find it boring. Listen young people- you are boring an old man!" | How can you have any pudding if you won't eat your meat? |

Something that's always bothered me about this and may be an explanation of how you feel is the way the industry is set up. It seems like the barriers to entry to become mainstream require you to meet cookie-cutter demands by record labels etc. It limits creativity but even worse it reduces the limitless pool of artists the average person might hear to an industry selected top 40

I always wonder how much more variety we'd be exposed to if it was really as simple as radio stations seeking out the best new undiscovered music and just playing it. Probably would be a mind blowing difference. Mainstream artists aren't necessarily that much more talented than the rest of the musical world. A lot of them just got their foot in the door

No
Your answer is entirely biased against what you listened to in your formative years (10-20). You will always say that music is the best. So, if you are older than that, you definitely think new music sucks, and the stuff you grew up on is best.
Ask kids in the 10-20 age range, and I guarantee it'll be mostly top-40 (or top-40 equivalent depending on genre).

I am not a fan at all of what I’m hearing on the radio these days.
I’m more interested in independent artists and they still produce great music and it doesn’t really follow the trends on the radio so idc basically.
I don’t care for pop music from earlier eras either tbh, but it’s better than today’s pop music.

Grunge died and I found 60/70s Motown. That was the greatest era of music ever. |

That's why I almost exclusively listen to my local radio station which pretty much only plays indie artists, pretty much exactly what you described. I've been introduced to a bunch of new artists that way
Then I'll occasionally flip over to the Top 40 station and maybe like a new song once in a while, which will then be played 24/7 until I learn to hate it
