Gave it a 5. It was a mixed bag
First half an hour was legitimately funny, I lol'd quite a few times. Bill Murray was in top form throughout that first act and I really wish the rest of the movie followed suit
But it got pretty trashy. The humor went downhill fast, the plot with the two hot cops falling in love with those goons was sleazy and dumb, and the whole rescue attempt in the third act was just snoozy. A shame, could've been a whole lot better if it stuck with the tone from the beginning

Uhhhh.....
So one of my favorite guilty pleasure comedy movies is In The Army Now and I know this movie is what pretty much inspired it and is obviously rated way higher, so I was excited for it. The first half was really fun, but it went downhill pretty quick. The girl cops were totally useless characters and it's annoying they put so much screentime on them at the end. All the romance scenes were very creepy and rapey looking and I have no idea what these attractive women saw in these two men. Would have much rather had more scenes getting to know the members of the platoon that weren't John Candy and his doofy friend. Psycho for instance had two very funny scenes in the beginning and then was never heard from again except silently brooding in the background. The distance it took with the girls angle caused me to pretty much be completely tuned out at the end sadly.
I think I would have hated it if I watched it alone. Watching it on Rabbit made it better. There was a few funny scenes, Ramis and Murray were both funny. But I don't think I'll ever watch it again.
Gave it a 5 |

Four of us rabbited it which did make it more enjoyable. We should definitely rabbit the final movie with a good size group

I gave it a 4 too FYI. Feels like I walked in just as the movie started to go downhill

During the last part I was waffling between giving it a 4 or a 5 because there were some great parts near the start and I was mostly enjoying the experience of watching it, but it just fell apart even more during the last act instead of pulling itself together, and the reason I was enjoying it was because watching it together was fun, not because the movie did anything right
IF ANYTHING a few scenes in there really seemed determined to make watching with pals incredibly awkward | d ( i n o s r o a ) r

My other standard for a 5 (good if you're interested in the premise) was "if my dad watched this would he love it" because he joined the military pretty much the same time this movie takes place and also ended up stationed in Europe and anything with military antics and incompetent higher ups is something he'd wanna see
But I think even with this being a premise he would be very interested in, it wouldn't have hit the mark. It just got too sloppy | d ( i n o s r o a ) r

I seen this several times. I LOVE Bill.
This movie is a classic. And came out when comedies like this was a bit of a pioneer. So it’s not surprising that it doesn’t translate well with a younger audience. Through out my younger years me and my friends would quote this movie all the time. It’s one of those movies that’s funnier to quote than it actually was.

No you’re not.
But I’ll admit that you definitely are a grumpy old bastard when it comes to your taste in movies.

"That's a fact JACK!" is the line we always quoted.
It's a fun movie that still makes me laugh in parts.

I love Bill, I love Ramis, and Sean Young is a BABE!
I wish I was in on the watch party because I think I would have had a much easier time watching this. The movie feels like it should end at the graduation ceremony, so I was surprised I had another THIRTY minutes left.
The basketball in the window is easily the best gag of the movie. There's a lot of early bits that I thought were funny, so I was surprised when the next 2/3rds of the movie didn't really do anything for me.
Definitely disappointed, but I'm glad to have finally crossed it off my list.
