well, GTA V comes with a few innovations. you get to play 3 characters, and you can switch inbetween them during the game.. it's a new approach for sure. like, you're on a mission and the dude assigned as the getaway driver gets shot or something. so then, the guy riding shotgun, holding a gun possibly, gets to be in control to take the steering wheel. he'll drop the gun to take control of the car. they've put a lot of thought into that from what i've read.
also, the whole map will be available from the start. no boundries, no bridges keeping you away from parts of the map which you usually get to see later when you made a certain progress. i like this.
next, animals. the countryside of San Andreas has a wild life, like i don't know...deer, fox, rabbit, snakes possibly, and more stuff like that. they said they wanna implement the feeeling that came with the environment in Red Dead Redemption. so there will be things hopping through bushes, hiding under rocks and so on. in cities you have dogs, cats and stuff...possibly. you can take a dog for the walk, i think that's pretty much confirmed
there are some "major" changes for GTA V, as in R* rly tries to re-invent the open-world rulebook (link for that article on page 1 in this thread) but it will still be a GTA of course.
there is "AGENT", which has been anounced some time ago (coming soon) which could be a totally different thing from GTA, but still be open world. but who knows who knows....
i'll certainly wanna see another RED DEAD title, and i'd love to see the next NOIRE title too. maybe they'll decide to bring BULLY 2...which would be a letdown, since i can't find excitement in that game. next generation consoles will bring a new era of gaming and i think R* is a frontrunner to introduce some epic, and new game/franchise with the new consoles....but that's in 2013/2014....so it'll still be a while
"There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die."
yeah nah I don't mean left field asin the GTA series, the direction they're taking this series looks great to me. I think GTA 5 looks very good... It's just like ps2 though, each installment was a big improvement on the other. If GTA V is to GTA IV, what GTA:SA was to GTA3... then massive win. And it most likely will be, R* used GTA4 as their platform into this generation, red dead redemption (spiritual successor to red dead revolver) to build on this and I think will use these experiences to fine tune this generations swan song for R*... it's gonna be epic im sure.
Would also like to see a new rdr next generation (loved this game so much).
La noir I enjoyed, but their wasn't much to do outside the plot imo. Still a fun experience (rdr >>>> gta iv > la noir). And yeah I've never played any max payne game, but mp3 is on my to play list.
I meant left field with a new franchise, again open world, but maybe a setting in a more ancient time. Pre-guns as it was.
well, AGENT is supposed to be a R* project in the making, behind the curtains or whatever. nobody knows what it is, when there will be any news on it, nothing really. if it ever sees the light of day i doubt it will be pre-guns though.
I think GTA V won't exactly be the jump and bring the progress forward as it has been the case with GTA SA following GTA 3. but it will add three great things R* further improved since GTA IV.
the more detailed environment from Red Dead Redemption, and the fine tuned shooting mechanics from Max Payne 3. If the gunplay physics resemble Max Payne 3's and if you got the same freedom to movement for your character, as in you can aim everywhere while moving at any direction, then it's a WIN already. if it has a beautiful landscape with deserts and tales, animals in mountain regions and things like that as shown in Red Dead Redemption, it will be even MORE win.
L.A. Noire was pretty "unusual" for a R* game but that's partly because they worked together with former Team Bondi, and the core structure and idea came from their camp. the facial motion capturing is awesome, but it wouldn't serve the purpose for a GTA game. there are hundreds of pedestrians running around. almost undoable to capture so many faces. it would lower the performance a lot too, besides the effort and expenses that technology is attached to. they should definitely bring it back though. i found it to be highly entertaining. they oughta make another NOIRE title someday really.
I can see R* doing something NEW for the next generation consoles...but i really hope they at least do another Red Dead and Noire title before they go there.

It looks sooooooo good....damn, today there might be new info. Maybe the box art gets revealed.Anyhow, just look at those screenshots...it's beautiful

It's not only beautiful, but also DELAYED. On the last of january, when half the gaming WORLD expected R* to show something the people, they announced a 4 months delay, and gace a release date. 9/17/13....people were maaaad as hell, funny and sad at the same time ;D
A few conspiracy theories goin on on the intrawebs right now. I'm pushing the "next gen bundle exlusive" scheeme. Also I'm pushing my luck on making people realize that the alleged fake videos by "some dude" are actually comin from R* to see the reactions to it. The "dude" posted the third "fake" GTA V gameplay trailer, in the air. It was released like 2 days after the delay was announced. The song that plays in the back "give it to me" fits like crazy, and it is rumored to be in GTA V on the radios or something. The lyrics say "I don't need no men, speaking lies". this is a metaphor to the outrage that people felt when they said R* lied to them about the release date. ALso, the cuts and edits are spot on just like in trailer 1# and #2 released by R* themselves, officially on their newswire. The vibe of this "fake" video has R* written all over it. Everyone says I'm retarded or wrong, so I guess I'm really onto something. Especially when the gtaforum mods keep locking my threads and undercover R* spies try to sabotage my messages ;D
Here the fake trailer, which i think actually comes from R*. It's their account, it's footage they have recorded at some point during some development phase. It's a twist within a twist, and then another twist within the twist in there. But Henry can't be fooled like that. Too easy

Really excited for this. GTAIV was a major letdown for me but that may be by my own doing. Was hyped for it as soon as I heard about it but I was an extremely late bloomer in actually buying a current Gen system to play it. Definitely wasn't worth the 5 year wait of avoiding spoilers and gameplay videos. Oh well.
This one is shaping up to be fantastic so far. If it feels a little bit more like SA, I'm sold.
I thought San Andreas was the best game in the series. Maybe I was the only one who loved all the little stat meters but I'm a sucker for grinding in games for some reason. It was also fun and didn't take itself too seriously. I know there's some element of that in all of them but SA had it in droves. I was also stupidly into the turf war side and would spend ages just trying to expand my territory.
The hour that I spent playing GTA IV did not make me want to go out and buy the game. I still haven't to this day. Nothing about it enthralled or excited me in the slightest. The new one looks good so far though. I'll wait and hear what the initial reaction is following the hype on release.
I would also unsurprisingly have to say San Andreas was my favorite. I absolutely loved the characters, various things you could do, and the whole Menace II Society / Boyz N the Hood thing it had going on. The 90's gangster/rap culture acted as a better backdrop than I ever would have guessed.
That being said, I really liked GTA IV. It wasn't nearly as fun or insane/crazy as San Andreas, but I thought the story made up for the lack of base jumping and bicycles and everything that was cut. The awesome Jamaican guy is also the reason I still turn on subtitles to this day if they're available. I just think "what if there's a Little Jacob in this game?"
Though sometimes I wonder if I had not gone the route that revolves around Roman towards the end and instead went with the scenario involving the rushed, forced love interest if I would have liked it less.
Oh, and dat Three Leaf Clover. One stellar mission does not make a game, but damn was that a great mission.

I absolutely hear ya. SA was the biggest, most content-packed, arguably funniest and most fleshed out GTA of the series - so far. It's the GTA that offered the most to do. Those stats and customization aspects in SA were great and everyone loved it. Who didn't engage in the turf war until every spot was green on the map?! (even that little yellow piece of shit area near the ocean that belonged to some weak ass Vatos) - Getting tattoos, a fresh haircut, buying lots of clothes, going to the gym to work out (or not) - SA was the peak of possibilities for the PS2 generation. Everything they learned from III and VC was put into SA and max'd out. Skill meters for guns and actions, driving skills, flying school, you could indeed grind a lot. All that stuff was missing in IV though.
The HD era therefore offered much more realism and a reboot of the GTA series so to speak. Time moved on, and R* adapted, took a new approach, did what they always wanted to but couldn't because of technical limitations. Of course not everyone would like it and wish their old skool GTA back but that's not how it works. The evolution in graphics, engine, physics, the details...this jump into the HD era was a blessing and necessary. IV was the first step into the direction, the guinea pig, it was new turf for R*. It showed the direction, the capabilities....and now some 5 or 6 years later everything is well documented, no longer new turf for the developers and thus they can pack GTA with content and flesh it out just like they did with SA.
I imagine V to be very much like SA in terms of how it's packed with content, offering you lots of space to whatever you want and deliver the right vibe for a HD GTA. Cold, rainy New York can't compete with sunny California. Just can't. IV was a concrete jungle. V will feel very different. There will be no physical fitness system for your character (you dont get fat or skinny) and there's not much variation in tattooing and haircuts and stuff, but that's due to the ambitious story that is told. That kind of realism i very much appreciate. That might anger a few people, but that's quickly forgotten because sun and palms and mountains will be back - and that will absolutely set the tone for the game. Even though it might not be as funny as SA because R* nowadays aims more for realism in their games, which can be win but also fail, depends on your perspective really) people will have blast just driving around HD Los Santos. The vibe will be right. Everything R* learned from IV, RDR and MP3 will be put it into one costume and push things to the "limit." Dynamic missions, a huge environment, a musical score, multiplayer, the gun play mechanics. It will be the creme of the creme. The most authentic and ambitious GTA ever. and you get to play 3 characters...this will be so great.
