Also I just read that the fourth Cloverfield movie is already wrapped, this third one was like a random surprise sidestep in the meantime

"In 1944, two American paratroopers are shot down over Normandy in the midst of the D-Day invasion and they discover that the Nazis are using supernatural forces against them."

Wonder if Netflix has bought the rights to that and all future installments too. If not, I don't know why Paramount sold this one and not that... This wasn't a bad movie in the slightest. I really enjoyed it and feel robbed of having the opportunity to see it in theaters. | nav is ugly and i am pretty |

From the wiki:
|
The film was originally scheduled for a February 2017 release but in late 2016 it was moved to October 2017, to give more time for post-production.[15] The film was pulled from Paramount's release schedule, but an unnamed Cloverfield film was scheduled for release in IMAX that month.[16] In July 2017, it was announced the release had been delayed another three months to February 2018.[17] In January 2018, the release was moved for a third time, to April 20, also announcing that the title God Particle had been dropped for Untitled Cloverfield Sequel, with the implication that this was due to a change in the plot device of the film's story.[6] That same month, it was revealed that Netflix was in talks to acquire the film from Paramount. Paramount's chairman Jim Gianopulos felt the film's budget (which ballooned to over $40 million from an initial $5 million) was too large for the film to be profitable with a traditional theatrical release and that it still needed work done, and "while Abrams expressed an intent to get down to business in post-production, it was too little, too late".[18] |
Sounds like a really weird development. The budget soared and they didn't think they'd earn the money back so they...dropped it on Netflix? I don't quite get that. How much would Netflix pay for a release like this? I guess it's significant enough to warrant the move? I'm not sure, it's a very weird move but I still dig it. A fun surprise and a big win for Netflix I imagine

ehhh, pretty disappointed. This was definitely the weakest of the series for me. 1 > 2 >>> 3
I feel like there were kernels of a good movie here but all the characters/situations were so under-drawn. And MUNDY was annoying as shit
The most interesting part to me was how this ties to the other two honestly. I'm pretty confused by that since the original movie implied the monster was just waiting on the bottom of the bay until a satellite crashed and woke it up. It would've been pretty cool if the pod at the end was what went into that bay tbh, but obviously that's not the case since the monsters were already at large. Seems like it tied much more closely into Cloverfield Lane as far as the state of the world, but the original monster was there rather than those eel-like aliens?? I guess both of those creatures are there simultaneously? Really curious how this all actually fits together

As far as the movie goes...
|
It was aiiiight. Not bad. My least favorite of the trilogy but I still dug it. I like how the trailer was misleading and that it didn't exactly take place on the ground during the Cloverfield events. I really love the idea of each entry just focusing on something entirely different and building the world piece by piece, it's a really fun approach. Sounds like the fourth will do exactly the same
First half was muuuuch better than the second. I would've loved more weird paradox shit and weird hijinks aboard the ship. They had free reign to do whatever they wanted with strange side effects and the movie would've excelled if it kept focusing on that. The worms in his body, the severed arm, and the lady in the wall (especially) were definitely the most effective parts. A shame it turned into more of a standard affair by the end (Sunshine vibes!) but it was still overall enjoyable. I LOVED the water death, that was so cool. I figured she would just drown, then I figured she'd be sucked out of the airlock. I didn't see the water freeze coming, that was great. The first three deaths>>>the last three deaths
I thought the husband was taking the girl to John Goodman's fallout shelter at first. Also what was the point of the little girl really?
I did love the last shot, CLOVEY!!!!!!!!! I liked the idea of them crashing onto Earth and finding it totally overrun by bizarre creatures
Solid enough. Didn't mind the decision to have a movie explain the origins of everything going on. It's very not-JJ but I'm cool with it |

This would actually be a really cool movie all on its own. Imagine a crew coming back from a mission, not a disastrous one like this, a routine one. They lose communication with Earth but they land in the water and soon find the world overrun by different types of creatures. I like the idea of a group of people totally cutoff and are the only people in the world who have no idea what the state of the Earth is |

I think Netflix just bought this movie so they can own Gugu Mbatha-Raw's career. She's got ANOTHER Netflix movie coming out in two weeks. | nav is ugly and i am pretty |

Yeah, I don't necessarily mind comic relief characters in serious movies (Bad Ape in War for the Planet of the Apes is a good recent example) but pretty much all of Mundy's one-liners fell flat to me and constantly deflated the tension in potentially dramatic scenes. The script in general had so many tonal issues and seemed like it couldn't decide if it wanted to be an action-comedy or horror or thriller |
