1. Lady Bird
2. Get Out
3. Three Billboards
4. Dunkirk
first three are all pretty interchangeable tho. Dunkirk is kinda like Gravity to me where I get why it's nominated for so much cuz it's really impressive on a technical level, but the movie itself did little for me
Still wanna see CMBYN and maybe Phantom Thread/Shape of Water

Dunkirk could have been so good if it had some other director, ridiculous nomination imo.

That was Nolan’s first directing nom ever. Wish he got it earlier for something else

Agreed, although I think the script was a way bigger issue than the directing for that movie

I've been thinking about the number of actors in two or more of the big movies this year
Lucas Hedges in Three Billboards and Lady Bird
Timothee Chalamet in Lady Bird and Call Me by Your Name
Michael Stuhlbarg in Call Me By Your Name and The Post AND Shape of Water (and Fargo this year)
Caleb Landry Jones in Get Out and Florida Project and Three Billboards (and Twin Peaks this year)
That's crazy. Stuhlbarg made three movies this year and ALL THREE are nominated for Best Picture |
Seems kind of sketchy. Has anyone checked his relation to the committee? Perhaps a brother, or a secret lover? | "So, uh, what are we saying here? If we save LA from a nuclear bomb, then you and I can get together for dinner and a movie?"

lol just saw this. Mystery of Love is a great song but I think Visions of Gideon is better. And when you pair it with the accompanying scene... How was it not the clear choice?
Also here's my ranking of Best Picture nominees so far. Enjoyed the ones I've seen very much.
1. Three Billboards
2. CMBYN/Lady Bird
VERY CLOSE 4TH. Get Out
First 3 are all 4 1/2 stars with Three Billboards possibly moving up to a 5 if it continues to stick with me. I just kind of need to set aside time for the other four* because I'm not good about watching long movies.
|
*I AM NOT WATCHING DARKEST HOUR**. YOU COULDN'T PAY ME TO WATCH THAT GARBAGE.
|
**Until Gary Oldman loses, then I might watch it. |

I've watched the Visions of Gideon scene about a dozen times now which is rly saying something considering how little is featured in the scene

1. Get Out
2. Call Me by Your Name
3. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
>>>>
4. Lady Bird
>>>>>
5. Dunkirk
6. The Shape of Water
7. The Darkest Hour
First three are basically tied, any combination that I come up with feels right to me. I acknowledge that Get Out is more of a personal favorite of mine and that the other two are overall better movies by a smidge. CMBYN probably sticking with me a bit more than Billboards but both are amazing
Dunkirk and Shape of Water are probably the biggest letdowns of the year for me. And Lady Bird in its own way tbh but to a lesser extent
