What a beaut of an ep

Loved it. For a show known for being so bleak the uplifting episodes sure are great. I like that they throw in happy endings every now and then, if you knew every episode was gonna end in some brutally bleak fashion then you could figure how each one would end for the most part, these happy ones keep you guessing

Like when they met up to say goodbye and both said they had their perfect match tomorrow, I thought for sure they'd get killed (or something) during their rebellion only to find if they just waited it out that they were each others' perfect match. That's the Black Mirror way more often than not, but I'm so glad it didn't end up that way. I loved the moment she approached the taser because I didn't expect her to be right about it all being a test at all

Reminded me a lot of the Truman Show in more ways than one. Not even the fact it was all a simulation, more so the fact that they rebelled in order to break the rules to be with each other

And boy did they capture online dating perfectly. PITCH PERFECT

Top tier episode, can't wait for Igor to hate it

wow, I feel like I watched a completely different episode (: This one didn't work for me at all. Not even close to San Junipero which is the obvious comparison

I think the main thing for me was I didn't really feel any chemistry between Frank/Amy. The way the story moved after their first date it quickly became obvious that the episode was heading towards them bucking the system and trying to stay together, but when I realized that I was really confused cuz I didn't see any connection between them after the first date. And then the next time they met they seemed madly in love, which felt really unearned. I feel like spending more screentime showing their first date would've went a long way, but it was probably more the dialogue/actors' chemistry than anything

I liked the concept overall but the execution of it fell pretty flat for me

To be fair I felt the same way regarding their chemistry after their first date. The whole time I was like imma need some more out of them to buy their close connection

But I dunno, I sorta think something like that can go unseen sometimes. Like I buy that THEY liked each other which is all that matters really. I didn't see it right away but as a third party in the relationship that's sorta fine. The moments of Amy reaching for someone else's hand to try to capture that same spark was convincing enough for me. They were clearly always thinking of each other so there was something big there between the two of them that all their other dates couldn't compete with. I bought into that even if I didn't see them as pitch perfect together during the first date myself

I don't really understand the ending

I liked this one a lot. I wish it was longer, though. The ending with the girl figuring it out felt very rushed. Like I get that she had been noticing stuff throughout (she does mention the 4 skips kinda earlyish) but it seemed like there was a pretty big jump to conclusion re it's a sim to test us specifically and to win we need to escape. Like that came somewhat out of nowhere for me, especially since she was EXACTLY right about it.

Still loved it, just wish we had more to explain that.
