Most interesting part to me sorta got glossed over - the project stunting Sara's growth since you probably need to see some horrors of the world to develop correctly. That could've been a great road to go down so I was disappointed they jumped through that and went with the fairly predictable third act instead
|
I thought for sure this is where they were going with this. How blocking out all the bad things in life was actually worse for you and that you need the bad.
Meh in comparison to episode 1.
I liked the episode best when Sarah was in her second arc. (Grade school I guess?) She seemed sweet and corrupted by the system.
the ending was pretty stupid.
also had to fast forward thru 2 gross scenes, ewwww!

i just finished this one and liked it! though i've only ever disliked one episode (waldo moment) so that's not super surprising.
i did think the ending was a little weak, but i can live with it.
curt for the record i think the mom knew for sure she was pregnant because of the thing notifying her. if she was doing it just in case, she would've got the pill when she saw her having sex the first time. that being said, i didn't see it coming either, i thought she was grabbing some sort of anti-depressant and thought that would've been lame. so i definitely liked that twist.
not as good as episode 1 but i don't really think many of them will be?

The mom is a garbage human
First of all who the fuck OKs an implant in your child's mind that has very little benefit
Second, why the fuck would you keep the parental lock on when your grandpa almost died
Three, how do you think it won't fuck your child up if they can't see shit that's scary/bad
real pissed the mom didn't die there at the end
that would be the perfect ending
her mom dying and her daughter getting hooked on coke then heroin
butttt they take the easy way out
overall decent episode but the premise is really hard to buy
kinda predictable at times too, u can kinda see where they are going with it | Winner of 11 Courses of Thanksgiving

I do think the concept works in the terms of parents tracking their kids.
I knew some dude that his parents literally tracked where he went with his phone, we went to sum party in high school far away and they hit him up and were like we know where you are come home now or we're getting you | Winner of 11 Courses of Thanksgiving

What was kind of scary about this episode was the fact that if this technology was available i 100% know people that would jump at the chance to be able to do this.
It started 10-15 years ago when parents started pumping their kids with ritalin and did everything they can to keep them numb so they didnt ever have to experience negative emotions or any kind of emotional trauma.
The way Sara reacted when she was finally able to be taken off the leash seems to be a pretty standard one similar to when kids today are old enough to be taken off their behavioral meds, either they rebel to the point of beating the shit out of parents or they become such fragile snowflakes that their fragile emotions can't handle the use of a word.
So as a whole, i thought the episode was really good and i drew a lot of similarities between the helicopter parenting of the mom and the kind of shit that goes on every day in our society.

Man...this episode hit a weird spot for me.
I know for SURE, with absolute certainty that if this technology was available, my mom would have got a hold of it and used it for me and my sister.
I thought they were going the route of how not seeing the bad would jack you up, but they didn't really do that.
In a lot of ways, I think this was about how the technology affected the mom more than the daughter. This episode was much more about her than Sarah.
She experienced fear of losing her, then got the tech to make sure that wouldn't happen again. But the stuff came with a ton of different effects too and it was whether or not the mom could just let her daughter go and be herself or if she would continue to live paranoid and need to maintain control.
Ultimately, her paranoia and her need to be everywhere Sarah was and know everything about her daughter at any given time was too much for her and it cost her the most precious relationship she ever had.
They clearly were showing us how the mom was completely consumed by that technology. Only when she put it away was she actually able to have a life of her own, enjoy nights out with a guy and be peaceful. Then when the paranoia came back up and she couldn't help herself, her life was again all about Archangel and she eventually ruined herself.
It was a great episode in my mind, but SUPER uncomfortable. From start to finish it made me uncomfortable. It was a lot slower than a lot of other episodes, but you just knew what was coming and seeing it all build. It was super fascinating.
I really hope nothing like this ever gets invented. It would ruin so many people.

I liked the technology but at the same time, it is too much. People need to experience things themselves without their parents watching every little thing they do. I can sympathise with the mum although she did take it too far with the emergency pills or whatever. That was so messed up. I don't think she deserved to be bashed tho but what did she expect.
