I'm kinda split on it but I mostly agree. It would be COOL to see the novel adapted properly but at the same time this seems like an interesting direction they're taking this. And having it be a 'sequel' definitely doesn't feel forced in the case of this story since it was left fairly open for that at the end
yeah, the lindelof-y worldbuilding was my favorite part of it. the squid stuff, the vietnamese bakery, the added stars on the flag, you understand it immediately as an alternate reality. and that opening! has to be the first time that massacre was ever depicted onscreen?

the jeremy irons ozymandias (?) stuff is supposed to be a black freighter-esque runner throughout the show. dont know how that's gonna factor in
It definitely gave me Leftover vibes with the worldbuilding. I love the way Lindelof does it. The background poster of President Redford in the classroom was my favorite
the race stuff is obv very complicated and will probably need the rest of the season to really feel like a complete picture. at this stage of the game i'm really interested in why angela and her husband raise white kids - and don johnson's nervy references to black tulsa, and his love for conservative radio, although that last bit felt more necessary for worldbuilding than anything. making rorschach the face of a white supremacist group is also interesting. haven't read the book since '09 but i don't remember him being quite that dicey, maybe it's more of a comment on the way people interpret what he left behind. cant imagine he gets a tv show in this universe tbh.
hey I watched this, pilot was SOLID. I think it did a pretty good job getting a similar FEEL to the book, although if this is leading up to a "cancer bomb" when the clock hits midnight I feel like there's definitely less weight than an all-out nuclear apocalypse like the original (of course that's not what it ACTUALLY led up to)
The squid stuff was interesting, I guess we're left to assume the US government is behind that in order to keep up Ozymandias' alien invasion ruse? If so does that mean the newspaper kid that finds Rorschach's journal at the end went to the US government with that information instead of releasing it to the public...? Seems kinda weird but hopefully they explain that a bit more
For some reason I assumed the Sheriff was future Nite Owl when he showed up in that ship, but I guess he was just...using it?
There were plenty of references to the book (obv) but I did like the nod to one of the actual good scenes of the movie with the "Unforgettable" cue
Rorschach being used as a symbol of white supremacy definitely made sense to me. I don't think he was ever overtly racist in the book but it's easy to see how some of his...bluntness could be misappropriated by these people
