I listened to Episode 1, it's really good. John is amazing to listen to - the combination of the redneck accent but enlightened perspective and brilliant mind is really entertaining. I liked the comment about being lost in the maze and how it felt like being lost in John's mind. I started googling the coordinates in the beginning of the podcast so I could see the maze - so disappointing that Brian was protecting John's privacy lol.

EPISODE 2
Midway through. LOVED the bit about why John gets tattoos despite hating them. He comes from money so every time rent is up for the tattoo parlor he conveniently gets a huge piece done and saves the shot, sacrificing his skin to keep it afloat. How beautiful
Just got to the midway revelation that the kid didn't end up dying and that someone else DOES end up dying. Intriguing |
I loved the tattoo thing, too. And the peeing in the sink thing was actually hilarious even though it's gross.

NO. NOOOOO. That is so depressing. I started to think that Tyler was gonna be the one who died. It crossed my mind briefly that it could be John but I shrugged it off because he's very much the star so far. Jesus. My jaw dropped at the end
This is a perfect example of the power of a true crime podcast. The narrator knows what ends up happening so they can withhold things from you and hit you with it at the right time
This scenario is so rare. It's much heavier than the death of a fictional tv character, and other true crime stories don't really suffer the death of a major character partway through. POOR JOHN |

I'm not through yet but I have been listening this afternoon and I think I'm up to episode IV, but I'm really glad you decided to use spoiler tags. Anyway, so sad. :( And the fact you hear more and more about how he touched so many people. The horologist that showed up at his place and the description of that encounter with John just telling him where to take the clock and not even saying "hello" first. And then they became friends... so touching and sad that he couldn't or wouldn't get help and left such a void for a lot of people. |

Finished S-Town

Mixed feelings. I was a bit disappointed that there was no murder (like Igor lol), and also surprised that the cousins seemingly didn't turn out to be evil. Also surprised about the mercury poisoning but it makes sense. I still think John would've still been depressed. Also, I hated episode 6 (like Igor lol). And I was hoping to find about the gold.
Other than that, I think the whole podcast was done really well and I really liked Brian. He did a great job. It kept my interest throughout. |
I also listened to In The Dark - finished today while cleaning.

It was pretty good, I would say the host wasn't as good as Brian but it was very interesting and very sad and frustrating listening to how inept the Sheriff's department was. I guess there's a season 2 coming which I'll definitely listen to. |

My favorite Brian moment was when the cousin told him about yanking the nipple piercing out
"..ewww!" | |
