It got mixed reviews because people expected certain things, like an answer to the end of Twin Peaks (which I won't ruin for you- that last episode is when Lynch comes back and gets you going OMG!). When they didn't get an answer to that and were left hanging, they got pissed.

I love it- it really develops the concepts of the Lodge, it throws out a shit ton of symbolism that even after watching this countless times I'm still picking up new stuff and developing new theories.

One thing to note: When the monkey comes up towards the end, turn the volume up REALLY high and you'll hear something unexpected that ties back to Bowie's character.

But I think you will love FWWM.

One other thing to note that I'm interested in for the new series:

Lynch has a number of people who played characters in other movies coming to Twin Peaks, so I'm looking forward to see if they play new characters or one of their old characters, tying their movies into this. For example, Naomi Watts was in Mulholland Drive and is in the new season of TP, and Lynch said years ago that Mulholland Drive was originally going to be what happened to Audrey if she left and she went to Hollywood.

"• Though advertised as a “new season” of Twin Peaks, these episodes felt more like a revival of ALL of David Lynch’s work. Parts of it felt very Blue Velvet and Lost Highway, with some imagery from Eraserhead mixed in."

But the whole "Black Lodge/White Lodge" struggle is pretty awesome, especially with certain Lodge characters appearing to lean one way or another and others that cross over, like The Little Man From Another Place, who was Mike's "Arm"- the one he cut off that had the Bob tattoo.

But if you want to talk about theories, I can go on for a bit about the Ring, seen off and on in the series and much more prominently in FWWM. You want the general theory and my theory on that ring?

I'm not going to spoiler tag FWWM and Twin Peaks stuff now, since it is all quite old (just a fair warning to anyone). Any new Twin Peaks stuff can go in spoiler tags- I just don't want to hide old theories and the like.

Well, there are a few competing theories on the ring and what it means- especially since the ring itself is etched with the symbol found in the Owl Cave (and we know that the owls are "not what they seem and appear to be manifestations of the Black Lodge).

The basic underlying theory to the metaphysics of TP is that there are two Lodges- the Black and the White, which appear to be connected by the "Red Room" and the "Meeting Room". The key divergence in theories at this point circle around two issues:

-Windom Earle talked of the White Lodge in the past tense and basically said it was usurped by the Black Lodge, so some assume that the White Lodge doesn't exist anymore and that there are then only good aspects of the old "spirits" trying to survive in the Black Lodge.

-There are still two Lodges, but they meet at the Red Room, thus the pattern of the floor. The Black Lodge is usually identifiable by a flashing strobe light, whereas the White Lodge is identifiable as a more solid light. Thus you see a solid light when Major Briggs got abducted and he indicates he went to the White Lodge. Cooper gets a solid light when the Giant appears. You also see Laura and the angel appear with a solid light.

-There are two Lodges, but they are coterminous in the same "space" so that you don't travel between them so much as swap them in place.

In each case, it's clear that time doesn't flow linearly- for example- Annie appears dead to Laura when Laura is still alive and informs her that Annie has been with Laura and Dale and that the good Dale is trapped in the Lodge. We know that doesn't happen until the end of the 2nd season, of course. Also, Phillip Jefferies (David Bowie) gets on an elevator in Buenos Aries, gets off the elevator in FBI HQ, yet he's been missing for two years. In addition, the first thing he does is points to Dale and asks what they have there (indicating that he's likely seen Dale in the Lodge and thus doesn't think this is the "good" Dale, despite the fact that Dale's doppleganger hasn't escaped and been possessed yet.

So, with the timing aspect there, we get back to the "ring" and why it seems to be so important, with theories diverging. We know that Theresa Banks had the ring on and she got killed by Bob/Leland. We know that a few Lodge characters pointed out the ring or extended it to Laura throughout the movie, with Cooper (out of time, of course) warning Laura not to take the ring. Ultimately, Mike throws the ring into the train car, Laura puts it on, and gets killed by Bob (with Leland/Bob yelling "Don't make me do this"). After that, Leland escapes to the Lodge through Glastonbury Grove where Bob is forced by Mike and his "Arm" to give up his garmonbozia and give it to them.

The major theory everyone seems to agree on is that garmonbozia "pain and suffering" is the food of the Black Lodge denizens (and potentially all the Lodge denizens- again, you have the competing Lodge theories noted above). So Black Lodge spirits try to get garmonbozia to eat; thus, Bob goes and terrorizes people in order to feed on the suffering. (Garmonbozia appears as creamed corn and you may or may not remember that the Tremonds/Chalfonts old woman got upset when her Meals on Wheels had creamed corn in it, and the grandson made it disappear from the plate into his hand).

So here is one split on theories:

- That the ring itself marks someone so they must then be killed by Bob. Bob's frustration when Laura was given and took the ring stemmed from the fact that he had been prepping her as his next possession target, so being forced to kill her meant he couldn't possess her and continue his string of corruption and suffering. There is a ton of supporting evidence for this, including Bobby Briggs in the series breaking down, saying Laura made him sell drugs and do terrible things for her.

- Another theory is that the ring is a decision that marks your soul as able to be taken by the spirit who offers it. Thus The Man From Another Place offers her the ring, The Chalfonts offer her the ring, and ultimately Mike throws the ring into the train car, meaning Bob cannot claim her garmonbozia for himself. In this sense, Mike claiming her soul means that Laura is allowed into the White Lodge rather than the Black (thus the angel in the end of FWWM).

I have a ton more things, but this gives a quick hit of some of the theories out there.

I thought the White Lodge was twin peaks and the black lodge like consumes it or w/e. I always thought the coffee in the white mug was symbolism for it
