Not only that, but based on his role, doesn't it look like he'd only ever be able to recruit a single person?

The Stabilizers are probably the mafia faction. There might be a destabilizer gang as well I suppose, with powers that focuses on destruction rather than zombie/ghost/spy stuff.

He recruits whoever he resurrects, though.

What does three deaths indicate? One mafia hit, a potential killer, and what else?

If the vigilante striked down someone the first night it's vigilante - stabilizer - destabilizer/serial killer

Some sort of variation of that I suppose.
