I don't think you gain +2 points if you're attacked and rests so it's not a soundproof strategy.
I think? |
Agreed, that's why I said as long as my opponent doesn't pick a ton of attacks.

I went with:
|
1. Defend
2. Defend
3. Attack
4. Attack
5. Defend
6. Rest
7. Attack
8. Attack
9. Defend
10. Defend
11. Rest
12. Attack
13. Defend
14. Attack
15. Attack |
|
If I was going against you the way I'm calculating it I would beat you 9-4, by picking rest for everyone.

I think Schrauben is right.
idk if this makes sense, but in prisoner's dilemma format it becomes:
|
...... A ...... D ...... R
A . (-1,-1) . (-1,0) . (0,-1)
D . (0,-1) . (0,0) . (0,2)
R . (-1,0) . (2,0) . (2,2)
rows: own action
col: opponent's action
(x,y) means own payoff, opponents payoff |
the draws really don't help or hurt, so in terms of nett payoff, the gain from each action is:
|
... A ... D ... R
A . 0 . -1 . 1
D . 1 . 0 . -2
R . -1 . 2 . 0 |
So, like, if you attack, the expected payoff is 0 + (-1) + 1 = 0, if you defend, the expected payoff is -1, if you rest, the expected payoff is 1.
So resting seems to be the better action. Even if your opponent like attacks 9x and defends 6x, you are at 13 while they are at 10.

Hm, are you guys going with the Rest principle then? Would it only be a failure if the opponent only attacks and rests?

Yes that's what I did, for the only way you lose is if the other guy picks a lot more than defend.
