I think Viscera Cleanup Detail is the perfect game for someone who's become averse to war games

Yes, Tropico is very very fun and pretty simple to pick up and learn. They don't throw all sorts of impossible shit at you early and teach you just about everything through the missions.
Also Civ 4 and Civilization Colonization are pretty good if Civ 5 is too ridiculous for you. Civilization Revolution is also a really basic but fun little game for console. |

I never played anything before 4 admittedly. I think the Colonies one was the first one I ever played.
Also on the subject of micro-management games, Rollercoaster Tycoon and The Movies are the shit. |

Sleeping Dogs if you wanna run around Hong Kong beating people up. I second the Gone Home suggestion and Tropico, Skyrim, Portal, Fallout, and Civ. The Half-Life games are great. Team Fortress 2 is fun and cartoony violence so that might be good. I also enjoy Alice: Madness Returns, Remember Me, and Dishonored. Not all of these are FPSes but whatever.

Are they really?! That's the first I've heard about that, I'm so hype now.
As far as GTA clones go, Sleeping Dogs is probably the very best next to SR. I love that it's melee based opposed to gunplay. So fun just running through gangs and kicking everyone's head off. The story was surprisingly fantastic too. |

Yeah! It's called Sleeping Dogs: Triad Wars. They announced it this past fall.
