Very good, definitely worth watching. Aired in Iceland a day after the US, so will be watching!

Episode 2 was also very solid. I loved the scene where Cole describes parts of his daughter's death to the two detectives. The music starts building and he says he feels somewhat grateful that she died young and that she had a beautiful death. That was a great scene

"Is your mother still alive?"
"Maybe."
These moments make the character

Another solid episode. I like all the hints they leave about. "Ah we will come to that later". Mcconaughey is killing it

I'm gonna have to catch it on either HBO GO or by catching it on TV.
Somehow I'm just now finding out it is going to be an "anthology" series.

Anthology for what? | I used to travel the universe, but settled for parks.

Every season there'll be a new story with a completely different cast

And I watched the second episode last night, pretty good. I liked it better than the first, though the series still hasn't really GRABBED me yet

Another really good episode. The dialogue and characters are so great and consistent that you can definitely tell it was all written by only one person
|
I love these hints that they drop in the present day timeline. Marty mentioning the firefight as we see that creepy shot of a half naked dude in the field with a gas mask and a machete. Tense stuff. It makes me really look forward to seeing that unfold |

I found the pilot to be really well-done but very boring. I couldn't stay focused. Does it ever pick up?

Yeah I felt the same way. This past episode (#3) did pick up a bit though. It's getting interesting

That ending...damn. That was so intense. A six minute, uncut tracking shot throughout the shootout. So much tension. I was waiting for a gun to finally go off. It wasn't even much of a shootout really but it was really tense nonetheless. Really well shot too
Each episode I feel like the two main characters one up each other with how much they're spiraling out of control. Rust was presented as the crazy one early on, but I dunno...Marty's pretty nuts! Rust at least has some sort of handle on his shit. Marty just goes off so easily and is a disaster
The weird warehouse rave and the biker bar were cool locations too. The build up to Rust going undercover and doing loads and loads of coke was great. I thought things were gonna go terribly bad when Rust was forced to go onto the job and was pulled away from the bar

AND! This episode was pretty big too because it's the first time (that I've noticed) that the two leads lied to the detectives in the present day. Both of them lied about Rust's time off, and the audience got to see what really happened. That's pretty big. I've been wondering how much the show would play with an unreliable narrator. For all we know, half of what we're seeing in the past is bullshit

I think everything in the past is the truth, and they're just unreliable narrators in the present
Also WHAT AN EPISODE. The show is officially one that I'm actively looking forward to on a week-to-week basis now. Even before that ending I thought it was great but...DAMN! The scene with Rust just trying to calmly tell the biker to hurry up while everything was on the verge of going to hell was great. And obviously the unbroken shot was amazing. I wish more movies/TV would use that
I actually kinda wish now that we'd get to see MORE of these characters than just a season's worth, but at the same time it's nice that they (presumably) won't be able to jump the shark and their story arcs will stay tight. It really is just like an 8-hour movie
