At my old job I got texts from a random number. I don’t remember the exact texts but they were basically a guy texting his dad that he loved him and missed him. I just didn’t respond. Then I got a phone call with a message that was a real person and pretty emotional. I guess they were estranged? I figured this was real and not some kind of scam so I texted him back to let him know I wasn’t his dad.

That’s my only story, I don’t pick up anything from numbers I don’t have saved.

Plot twist: grandma forgot she had a grandson and this poor man and his dying friend Chris were legit

not a call but today Irene got a postcard asking to buy the house, as is, all cash. the picture on the postcard is of my neighbor's house

There's a streamer that specializes in messing with scam callers.
He likes to talk like an old lady or some other characters using a voice changer and usually they want to use some remote desktop app so he has an environment set up specially for them and sometimes has fake sites ready so they think they're using amazon or something, but they're really not.

My, at the time, 90 year old grandma, received a scam call from someone saying they were her grandson and that they were in prison using their one phone call to her, and asking her to send money for bail.

She got very agitated and upset and said “call your father!” and hung up the phone. LOL

(note I was told this later that day because she then called my dad to ask about it, and then they called me and I was like “uhhhh yeah I’m not in prison!”)

I just remembered my dumbass coworker whom I hate got a “job” at some work from home scam and as part of that supplied mine and my coworkers phone numbers and we all got a big text trying to recruit us to work for them. One of my coworkers even got a phone call from them.

I was extremely pissed and somehow my coworker did not get fired over the security risk and I refuse to work with her!

Well the Chinese got all mu personal info from hacking the US government. Which I could refuse to work for them. :(

I currently get a call once every 2 weeks saying that my car insurance has an issue.

... I haven't had a car since July of last year LOL
