Watched 'Sixth Sense' with the kids last night. I think it's the first time I've seen it since it as in the theaters. |
That movie is older than I think it is ... funny your kids haven't seen it yet. they were missing out!
I made my kids watch Princess Bride last year. Not sure they had the proper appreciation for it though. |
My kids loved Princess Bride when we showed it to them.
I have a few coworkers who have never seen it. I discovered this when they were leaving one day and I told them to "Have fun storming the castle!" and they had no idea what I was talking about.

Finally got around to watching Good Time in an effort to watch as many movies from A24 as possible since they're gr8
ppp good. Some fun/clever moments throughout the crime spree including one really good surprise. Robert Pattinson was great and definitely carried it, I hope he gets better roles like this | |

I thought it was great! Deeper plot than the original film. I like both for different reasons. Hope you enjoy it! | "All this from a slice of gabagool?" |

Okay Curtis, here is my essay:
|
I liked it. The gore was at least interesting gore. I'll just say that first because when I first saw that... THING on the table when they brought it back to their research station, it was pretty gross. But I liked how it was different every time depending on who it was trying to imitate and in what stage the process was.
I was really upset about the dogs being killed and that first dog getting infected. :(
The suspenseful music was lol but it was 1982 so I can't be too picky about that. Also all those fires not burning the place down and MacReady walking away from that final explosion. Okay. I was surprised by how big it got at the end, though.
Other than that, I liked not knowing who was infected and the way MacReady finally figured out how to test for it. I think I shrieked/screamed a couple of times, once during the first "positive" blood test. (: It also kept me guessing - at first thinking Doc was infected, then thinking he wasn't. Thinking MacReady was, then he wasn't, then he was, etc.
The ending was good, kind of funny tbh.
Overall, I'd give it least a 7.5/10 |

Who do you think was/wasn't infected during the ending? |

I think Childs was probably infected. I felt like MacReady had enough time to get away. What do you think?
Is the 2011 prequel any good if you've seen it? |

There's a toooon of debate about the ending scene and a lot of theories floating around about it. I think it was Childs too based on some theories I've read
This is a great example of a movie you can watch over and over and pick up on more clues each time. It doesn't feel that way when you're watching it but the creators were very meticulous when making it, this guy has a good series of breaking down some popular theories: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psxFyMoqbJ8
You can probably see why I like it so much, it's way more of a movie about paranoia and trying to figure out who to trust over a straight up horror movie. Tho the horror/suspense scenes are classic, especially the CPR scene and blood test scene
The 2011 version sucked of course. A few fun parts but it was pretty bad overall. The original was pretty revolutionary for practical effects and yet the studio forced them to use a ton of CGI for the prequel which makes no sense |

OMG the CPR scene. I didn't even mention that but it scared the crap out of me even though I knew that guy had to be infected.
But yeah, I see your point and that's what I liked about it, too. It's not just horror/gore just for the sake of it but has a good plot. |

I decided to watch the 2011 version of The Thing, which is a prequel to the 1982 version.
|
I appreciate that it was "updated" but they copied so many things, which was disappointing.
Instead of having the "blood tests" they used the "filling tests" which was not conclusive since some people either had porcelain fillings or just never had fillings. That was kind of passable, I guess... But, when they went into the shack to find the two Americans they had locked up who survived the helicopter crash and found it empty and that they had escaped through a below-ground tunnel, that was too much.
Also, I thought some of the guessing was easier in this one. I guessed the other female, Juliette, was the infected one as soon as she was the only one to seem to believe Kate's story and led her to a private room to find keys. Predictable.
I didn't really notice the cgi differences, Curtis, lol. I guess I'm an amateur where that stuff is concerned. (: (Strike that, I noticed a difference) They also seemed to add in a lot more "jumpable" moments which seemed gratuitous.
I did like that Kristofer Hivju was in it. I love him in GoT. (RIP in this movie.)
Kate surviving that fall into the spaceship without a scratch, not believable. lol the earring. Also, what happened to her? I guess she froze.
It did fill in some blanks like the two-headed corpse. And the suicide guy, I guess. And the dog and why the guy was shooting at it, but why were there two guys on the helicopter at the end? I didn't like the ending throughout credits.
Overall, I was semi-bored after just watching the original, which was much better. Plus, I already knew everyone would die. |

I watched slumdog millionaire last night. Pretty solid movie. | "So, uh, what are we saying here? If we save LA from a nuclear bomb, then you and I can get together for dinner and a movie?"
