Because in all scenarios we can see how people react, and even if you do get lynched still we can start to put together the pieces on who is scum or not. If you have a shit role then this is unlikely to help, but it's in the town's best interest to provide all info available so that we can make the most informed decisions.

If Lamps has a good role there is zero reason not to claim it if he's gonna get lynched today. If he survives the lynch then there's still the threat of roles to watch or protect him at night, enough that I can't see mafia risking killing him. It'd also give him at least one night to use his role if it would help.

I think it's gonna be up to the rest of us to decide this.

Lamps isn't trying to convince us he's town, he said he would rather get lynched than claim. I kinda like the idea of town not claiming, tbh.
