We rewatched Devil's Backbone, this time with the kids. When the name "Guillermo Del Toro" popped up on screen, they immediately said "Is this one of his depressing films?"
They were not disappointed.
How can you have any pudding if you won't eat your meat?
One of the few anime movies that has stuck with me over the years (Perfect Blue being the other main, non-Ghibli one), I was ready for the Hollywood version to be terrible. And it wasn't great, but it wasn't quite as bad as I was prepared for it to be. But it's still inferior to the source material, looks kind of cheap at times and has changes to characters and the storyline that I don't think were necessary. I did think that the guy playing Batou (Euron from Game of Thrones) was great in the role.
A lesson without pain is meaningless. That's because no one can gain without sacrificing something. But by enduring that pain and overcoming it, he shall obtain a powerful, unmatched heart. A fullmetal heart.
We've been watching What We Do in the Shadows off our DVR and finally just bought the bluray. The extras make it worth purchasing if you haven't gotten it already; hell, the full Deacon erotic dance probably is worth the price of buying it.

Finally saw it; everything that could be said about it has been said at this point. Fantastic movie and I will be super interested to see what else Peele goes on to direct. I just hope he brings the guy that played Rod back in everything he does in a "dependable friend" role. That character was hilarious, his Dahmer rant had me cracking up.
