I guess I don't get the Tony love. He is one of the most entertaining and crazy winners, but by far, he is in the lower tier of players in terms of winners.
I don't really care about gameplay nearly as much as entertainment value. Which is why I'd also rank Woo as one of my favorites
I think he is near the top in terms of gameplay of a winner. He didn't really rely on challenges wins and got people to trust him despite knowing that he was in the business of betraying his allies. The best comparison is a Russell who was likable and took the time to make people want to vote for him after he slit their throats.
"So, uh, what are we saying here? If we save LA from a nuclear bomb, then you and I can get together for dinner and a movie?"
But I don't think that was all Tony. Woo was a blind follower who just clung onto an alpha male and did what he said. Woo proved this in Cambodia. Trish was a big reason and a lot of luck that Tony made the end. He had a pretty bad FTC and the only reason he won was because Woo was just that bad.
The main reason I think luck was so important to Tony was he made a horrible move in getting rid of both Jefra and especially trish when he did.
Tony was completely vulnerable from f4 to f2 and he out himself there. Had Spencer won f4 immunity (which was ljkely), Tony would have been toast. The whole final 4 would have been.
I just didn't like Tony's personality. He felt like a villain to me though not quite a Russell Hantz type. Did he deserve to win? Yeah, probably. And Woo made the mistake of taking him.
Every winner made it to the end and won by capitalizing on the mistakes of others (: . You can't really fault one for that
That's fair. But it's the ego and the overhype I think that make me dislike Tony so much.
But I see your point. I won't deny that he is an interesting and entertaining winner. I just think his win had less to do with Tony capitalizing on others mistakes and more to do with people covering for him or not capitalizing on HIS mistakes.
As I said before I am most excited watch the following play: Cirie, Sandra, Michaela, and Tony. Cannot wait until this starts and I also have to add that Tony is one of the most fun winners and people we have always had on the show. Just look at his interviews and how he is able to joke around and most importantly with himself. He has this laid back vibe to him along with all the other Tony-esque things he has going for himself. He is so ridiculous sometimes and I just love/am drawn to people like that.
Watching pregame stuff where people like Sarah and Sierra say they are game changers is so cringeworthy. Just be like Hali and have self-awareness that you aren't a game changer.
