I'd have claimed right away if I were scum (Vanilla cop anyone?). I hate meta but yeah idk what else to say in my defense at this point other than claiming.

Because in all scenarios we can see how people react, and even if you do get lynched still we can start to put together the pieces on who is scum or not. If you have a shit role then this is unlikely to help, but it's in the town's best interest to provide all info available so that we can make the most informed decisions.

Lynching the doctor means he can't do anything.

Forcing the doctor in the open usually leads to a quick death.

I'd rather have the mafia need to waste a night kill on him if he has a good role. We cannot make predictions on potential scenarios unless he claims, however..
