Dragon attacks in small hovels are the worst. Literally spend ages afterwards assessing the damage and making sure nobody relevant is dead.

I'll use this topic instead of polluting the recently played one.
So I got a quest to drag some unarmed jackass to some tree what felt like a thousand miles away on the map. I found a camp of giants and was like yeah boy let's do some damage and charged in dick out and got cunt punted. I didn't die, but I learned my lesson so I scrammed. But my buddy was dead so I had to reload. He continued to die multiple times. Pack of dogs, bandits, my own axe...
I finally got him alive to the general area of where we needed to go and a damn dragon attacked. I dunno if these are scripted or random, but I turned and looked at the NPC as the dragon landed behind me and homeboy already had his fists up and I was like "no please no".
So dragon was flying around roasting the ground with lasers and fire and whatever else and I just accepted fate that the 92 year old fisticuff priest was going to be dead by battle's end.
But as I laid the killing blow I heard a cry from the other side... "DIE DRAGON!"
Somehow he survived bareknuckle against a dragon.
And then after all that we make it to this stupid tree and he gets hostile with me because I hit a root with a sword, get real buddy.

Is it detrimental to "clear" dungeons before getting quests to go to them? I wanted to try a different kind of character and started one (and now my save for my Orc is gone RIP - how do I avoid this in the future?). I made an Argonian and want to make him a standard thief/archer. As soon as I left Helgen I just went West instead of to Riverwhatever you usually do. I've stayed away from any cities or settlements but have cleared out any cave or ruins I come across.
I'm in a place inhabited by a coven of witches right now, and one or two prior to this I came across a cave full of vampires. I can tell both of these mentioned places likely have quests tied to them (I learned about the Dawnguard and vampires specifically more or less right when I stopped on my Orc).
I do remember on my Orc though that I had cleared Bleakfall Barrows and found a dragon stone or something prior to meeting the NPC that requested you to get it for him. And it just gave me the option to say "what, this old thing?" and give it to him.
But as far as "kill X" quests might go, is clearing these places out before progressing the main quest one step beyond Helgen shortsighted?

Naw don't worry about it. At this rate by the time you get those quests a month will have passed in game and those areas will have regenerated. And they'll regen at the lower level of when you visited them! The only time you might want to consider slowing down on sequence breaking is if the area has an associated unique item that changes power by level, but thats pretty rare and usually you have to be on that quest anyway. | d ( i n o s r o a ) r

and if you get the quests before the dungeon is regenerated, usually only the kill X generates when you get the quest so you get a cave with one very lonely bandit captain in it muttering lines to himself
Also certain RETRIEVE X ITEM quests can be completed with you just going "oh the orb of unnecessary suffering? lol ya totally already grabbed that. no worries" if you break the sequence | d ( i n o s r o a ) r

There is one quest you will fuck if you get a necklace early. The argonian lady outside Riften won't initiate her quest if you already have it and you're stuck with it forever. |

Enjoying my Argonian more than the Orc I was playing. I advanced the storyline just far enough to make dragons attacking a thing and have set off again. I had enough gold to buy Breezehome as soon as I arrived, as well as a horse.
I suffer from choice paralysis bad which is obviously not going to be good in this game. I went back and forth on who I was going to help out in some little throwaway sidequest. With the assassins looking for the Redguard woman in Whiterun. Originally I was going to help her, then I tracked down the leader and listened to what he had to say and agree to help him.
But then as I turned to leave I thought "these guys are hanging out in a cave with bandits protecting them, they're probably not on the up and up" and threw down with all seven or eight of them.
I was going to just use daggers and archery with this guy, but I looted double scimitars off of those assassins and kind of want him to be a pirate now.
I've also been killing or brawling with anyone that says anything racist about Argonians.

My Argonian is the only character I ever finished Skyrim with. They're very good.
I might replay soon as an orc. I've been playing D&D as a half-orc and I have decided they are the best fantasy race now because of it | d ( i n o s r o a ) r

My lizard is a werewolf now.
I became thane of Riften and bought the house there. I like Riften the best out of the towns I've been to. I also encountered the first enemy I had legit trouble with. Dragons? Nah. The Butcher guarding the Skooma supply meet up. He had some kind of enchanted war hammer and if he got up to me he would get a cinematic kill nine times out of ten.
I fled outside, and jumped around on dog cages while shooting him with arrows. Doing my Argonian ancestors proud.

I'm accidentally a cannibal now. And I stopped a serial killer.
Edit: After like four days of just letting the game run 24/7 whether I was playing or not, it finally crashed on me during a quick travel.
Hope I didn't corrupt everything.

My favorite thing about this game is how when I first get to a new big city I'm like "I'm never going to memorize the layout of this shit" and then within four trips I'm running around full sprint doing parkour off of rooftops.
I'm about to be done with the Thieves Guild storyline. It has hooked me in more than the main storyline has, or any of the other miscellaneous ones. Now that I'm a full fledged member bordering on being the leader, I've given up all pretenses of my Argonian being a "nice" thief.
It's all about threatening, pickpocketing out in the open and unarmed beatdowns now. When Brynjolf sent me around Riften to intimidate people that owed him money, I delighted in putting on a pair of gloves that boosted the damage my unarmed attacks did before going to town on them.

God, I figured I'd saved last night right before the confrontation with Mercer, but nope. I was maybe like 20% of the way through the ruins. That was pretty intense. I was getting wrecked until I took a moment to stop and spend the 15 skill points I'd just been banking up. Then I turned into a wrecking ball.
The final room vs. Mercer was great. I couldn't find my way out and was panicking as the room filled with water. I remembered finding some cult mask that buffed my waterbreathing a little. I threw it on and like to think that it's the only reason I didn't drown, as I was still swimming around when the room was completely full. I kept trying to go up through a steam pipe that looked like an exit.

Argonian's don't drown (: I was very glad I was argonian during that quest because it took me forever to find that exit.
I thought that questline took a bit of a silly turn but that dungeon was really fun. It felt like it could have been the ending to a game. |
