In the end, I decided that if it was going to crawl on me while I slept, I wouldn't know it. But tonight, I did a quick search around the premises. And will again, when I get to bed.

My car was due for a state inspection by the end of April but I completely forgot about it since I live in a city and don't exactly drive very often. I happened to notice on Sunday and brought it in Monday morning to the shop down the street just to get it taken care of so I didn't get a fine for it not being up to date.
Inspections in Pennsylvania run at about $25. Certain cities also require an emissions test, about $40 more. I went in looking at $65, I assumed at least $100 since there's usually something small that always seems to be replaced.
It took them 6 hours to call me and the conversation went like this. "You're car is in great condition.....BUT...."
I knew right then and there that I was screwed :(. $466 dollars and another 6 hours, I was able to pick up my car. Things needed done:
1) Front Tire A had a screw in it but had not deflated
2) Front Suspension needed a larger alignment than I thought (Thanks PA Roads)
3) Front Tire B was in bad condition due to the alignment issue
4) Some of the studs holding the wheels on the car needed replaced because the last time they were rotated the other shop cross threaded them.
I guess the moral is to always get your car looked at in a timely fashion. Who knows where or what I could have been doing when one of those front tires finally gave out. I have some trips coming up this summer and it could have also been an inconvenience if it didn't happen to be dangerous.
Oh and cars suck and don't live in Pittsburgh where there's debris and bad roads after every turn. It doesn't break the bank, I'm just glad we always put money aside for occasions like this so it's not coming from a monthly budget.

PA roads are the worst. Sucks that it cost you so much, but at least you got that stuff fixed before it became a problem! | d ( i n o s r o a ) r
