I'm on a roll now.
I watched The Book of Life this morning. I had put it on for my 2 year old cousin, who ignored it. But I was glued to the screen. The story was so good.

Saw La La Land today! It was ok! It'll win best picture which is a shame! Much better movies this year. Hell, there were even better musicals. Still, pretty enjoyable and Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling are nice to look at |
THIS. I saw La La Land on Saturday and I really thought it was a solid, enjoyable film (despite being someone who doesn't like musicals all that much) but it definitely seemed like one of those movies that will get Best Picture at the Oscars simply for being a tribute to Hollywood, whereas beautiful, subtle films with touching human stories like Manchester By The Sea (my favorite movie of the past year) and Moonlight (which I haven't seen yet) will miss out because they don't inflate the Hollywood ego.
That said, I would still recommend La La Land to anyone as Emma Stone was amazing. I think I left the theater having a bigger crush on her than Ryan Gosling (although his tap dancing made me feel a certain typa way). | "All this from a slice of gabagool?" |

I dunno. I don't live in Boston anymore so I don't have the cultural obligation. But I'm from there so I do have a moral obligation.

I watched Hidden Figures. It was good. It's totally predictable as an all ages feel good historical story, but in the good way cuz there's only so much you can do with these things. And like, if you need to calm down after Rogue One but you still want a movie about space ladies, it's perfect. Also great costuming.
Teachers should keep it as a rainy day "hey we're learning about the space race so let's watch a movie" part of history classes, on top of just having it cuz it's nice. My class watched some Apollo 13 movie and it was boring. This was way better even though it had less disaster drama (I mean we know John Glenn survives).

Just saw Moonlight. The tone, casting, and music were all perfect. The cinematography was beautiful. I really, really enjoyed it and am glad I saw this one in theaters. Probably my favorite movie of the past year after Manchester By the Sea.
I also saw Fences earlier this week. I would say only go see it if you tend to enjoy plays, because it definitely had the feel of a play--heavy on the dialogue, few and minor change of setting, etc. The acting was all around great, though--it's what held up the film. Viola Davis was a stand out, though. I'd be surprised if she doesn't get the Oscar for this, and I definitely think Denzel Washington deserves a few nods. | "All this from a slice of gabagool?" |
