So, on a very large whim, I just got a Nintendo Switch. Got a 25% associate discount from Wally World and couldn't resist the temptation.
Any early game suggestions? |
BotW is a must, Mario Odyssey's good, Octopath Traveler if you like JRPGs, haven't looked into it yet but Xenoblade Chronicles 2 might be good, the first one was good anyway.
Then there's a bunch of party games including Mario Kart.
Older games or cross platform games you get online if you want to play them on the go.

Mario Odyssey is what I was LEANING towards as I haven't played a Mario game in a very, very, very long time and I kinda miss it. I'm definitely planning on BotW, but I'm holding off until I'm not as busy as I feel like I'm going to be enthralled with it.
I didn't think I'd care for it much, but the whole on-the-go aspect is so, so cool. I haven't had a handheld system since the Game Boy Advance and seeing it on such a grand scale is amazing. I travel a lot so it's going to come in huge handy being able to have it at an airport or hotel room. |

what type of game are you looking for? the Switch already has a stellar lineup but Merc covered most of the big ones.

Got Odyssey and Mario Kart. None of my friends have a Switch far as I know so I'm not really sure why I got MK, but it's still fun to fuck around with. I wish they had a new F-Zero game, that was one of my favorite N64 games. I still play it on emulator every now and then.
I already plan on getting stuff like Stardew Valley and Civ, mostly for the on-the-go aspect than anything else. |

Stardew Valley is a great game, if you're into the genre. It's like Harvest Moon if they didn't try to reinvent the wheel with every new entry and instead just kept every gameplay idea they came up with.

I have Stardew on PS4 already. Harvest Moon 64 is probably my favorite ever Nintendo 64 game and it's almost an exact match of it, which I love. I did something to kind of fuck up my save on the PS4 and haven't really picked it up since. It's appealing for me on the Switch since it's cheap and is a good portable game for long trips and hotels. |

Harvest Moon 64 was SO good. I still don't understand why they didn't just keep that ball rolling. There have been other good Harvest Moon games but 64 was the peak.

I played one on emulator years ago... I think it was the DS one? I don't remember. Definitely didn't have the CHARM! It's just incredible to me how a game about FARMING could make me care so much about characters. That had one of the deepest character development systems for pretty much ANY game on the N64. How people gradually change their attitude towards you based off how you treat them. How you can only learn about people by actually getting to know them, not being forced into development stories. Ignore someone and miss out on their story pretty much. All the festivals! All the random secrets you could find. All the things you could build. There was nothing like it. There still is very little like it. What a journey! |

then he has to buy more controllers. and sure its worth buying the Pro controller, but that only gives you 2 player? or can you use just 1 Joycon per person?

You can use 1 joycon per person, I had 4 people over but only had a pro and the joycon so 3 people could only play at a time, so I bought a second pair of joycons. We just rotated.
The pro controller is so good, and the battery charge lasts forever.

I took a break from The Last of us and started playing God of War and it surprised me how good it is.
It's all about Norse mythology, which I happen to know a lot about, shocker I know :P
Anyone played it yet? | |

best was the Wii U pro controller. if they had copied that except making it half an inch to an inch wider it would have been perfect.

Yeah the controller problem is what I was moreso referring to (: It's still nice to have though. And honestly I've had so much fun playing with it today on single player. Been knocking out some grand prix with Ludwig. I'll need to get online eventually, but I'm holding off for now until I get more games.
