I would say watermelon soup does resemble a soup |

There used to be this great italian place in the shady side of KC. They had this half a watermelon filled with booze drink that would get a party of 12 pretty wasted.

Nobody but DS really perceives breakfast cereal as soup and it fails definition one, so cereal is not soup.

Hey vlady,
Does clam chowder fail your definition? No stock, no long boil to release the essences that only you and elves can see, some clam juice not made via magic, half and half, a little meat, maybe a tater or two if you got a broke ass and need it to stretch.

It is the one that pops up over and over on the net when you look up "definition of soup". The two definition version I posted is from Oxford Dictionary. Most others don't even have anything similar to definition two. For example, Merriam-Webster has:
Definition of soup
1 : a liquid food especially with a meat, fish, or vegetable stock as a base and often containing pieces of solid food
2 : something (such as a heavy fog or nitroglycerine) having or suggesting the consistency or nutrient qualities of soup
3 : an unfortunate predicament

If you drink it and stay out of trouble in that part of KC back in the 80's, you win and get to call it whatever you want.

It's just clam backwash from the steaming. It's not boiled to release the essences which you claimed to be a necessary step. So is chowder soup, or does it just stay over there with the other chowders wishing it was soup, but knowing it tastes better than almost all of them? Come on man, don't leave poor chowder hanging like that.

Umm, isn't that the essences? Doesn't that qualify as a broth or stock made from boiling/simmering clams? Call is backwash, I call it delish.
