I'm aligned with Wikey's bigger post. 1. I get the hostility from Igor is rubbing people wrong. But this thread seems less about working toward an actual "what we can do about this" solution and more of a bashing of Igor because you don't like him.

I actually like Igor and have yet to really bash him, though he has called me 'stupid', 'idiot', 'ignorant', and 'old man'. If I'm trying to be insulting, trust me- you'll know it.

No, it's not. That's like saying "Hey, we shouldn't try to stop people from drunk driving because people will do it anyway."

My issue with the "false accusations" portion is that 1) It is a tiny proportion compared to the alternative- sexual harassment/assault, and 2) If it is false, the accused has a remedy. Everyone can see the original accusation, so unlike assault/harassment, it is not a he said/she said case. If they can show it is false or the accuser admits it, you have grounds to sue the accuser and win quite easily. Contrast this with the sexual harassment/sexual assault victim, who is often disbelieved in the first place or played as if she is a false accuser from the get go. Nothing like being victimized twice.

I'm not a monster, despite what Igor says. I do get passionate on things sometimes and this is one of those issues. I don't think a lot of guys realize how prevalent sexual harassment and assault are in society. I got a first look at it back in HS. My GF back then had been molested a number of times as a child by a neighbor and she was pretty mentally scarred by it. We had a lot of great sex, but there would be occasional times when we were in the middle when something would trigger a memory from being assaulted, so she'd suddenly curl up in a fetal position, not wanting to be touched at all. There was absolutely nothing I could do to comfort her and there is nothing worse than the feeling of helplessness you get watching someone you care about in that state.

I also used to go camping and such with our priest- he'd take a few of us guys out. He never did anything to me, but he was a bit "huggy" and such. A few years into college, one of the guys I knew accused the priest. This was a kid I knew to be pretty honest and not someone I would think would make shit up. Then more boys came to light, from the summer camp the priest started and the like. I also had taken enough psychology at that point to recognize that I was being groomed and that it would have been a matter of time before it happened to me too- but I got lucky. So i recognize Feldman changing from "No- Jackson did nothing of the sort" to "Well, there was enough stuff that happened to make me question." I'm pretty sure that with time and distance, Feldman saw that, at a minimum, he was being groomed too.

My wife has dealt with a whole lot of sexual harassment. I can tell all kinds of stories, but I don't need to. Every woman on this board has a story- of sexual harassment at a minimum to sexual assault. But they will likely never tell us and they don't need to. The only way this gets fixed culturally is if you shine a light on it. No, it's not as simple as "teach not to rape." It goes into our entertainment as well. I have a really hard time with classic horror tropes that focus on women and children being hounded by a killer. It's not only become cliche but it is also disturbing if that is the only way the writers can put across "terror". It also goes into regular shows. I hated so much that Mulder and Scully ever got shipped. The show started with two strong characters, who just happened to be male and female, working together professionally, despite their differences in outlook. The fact they had to develop a romantic element at all is ridiculous- almost like our society can't handle men and women being together professionally without having to jump into the sack. THIS is part of the culture that needs changed,

Moreso, if people get punished....really punished, then the #NotAllMen guys who think they are the "nice guy" but treat women differently than they do men may think twice. If the fear of being "falsely accused" creates this much fear in a guy, then imagine what it is like to be a woman deals with fear on an often daily basis. Hell, I imagine most guys on here who are at a bar who have to hit the bathroom get up from their seat, head to the bathroom, (hopefully wash their hands), then return to their drink. They probably have no idea that a woman can't do that- they have to have someone watch their drink while they are gone or get a new drink. Otherwise, someone is gonna slip something in their drink. That's one of the many stories of things that have happened to my wife and she's lucky she had people she trusted with her at the time.

It is, because it says that this only happens from sociopaths and since sociopaths are already messed up, then we can't do anything. This goes way beyond sociopaths, because men do not realize how embedded some of the behavior is. Again, bringing up the UK Defense Minister touching a woman journalist's knee. Dudes say "That's not rape- this is no big deal!" except for the fact that it is. He'd *never* have done that to a dude, ever. And if a dude did it to him, he'd have freaked the fuck out.

It's like the rampant homophobia- saying shit like "the gays are recruiting" as if the only reason these guys aren't gay is because a gay guy never asked them out or something. Gay isn't a disease that gets passed from somebody to another- you either are or you aren't. But it's the culture we've established that allows shit like that.

the funny thing here is, that spacey had his fair share of characters that were "homosexually involved". think LA CONFIDENTIAL, where he sees gay men prostituting themselves. think AMERICAN BEAUTY where he gets kissed by a gay military veteran. think HOUSE OF CARDS where he kissed another man yet again.

he practically rubbed his dick in our faces all the time.
