Good game and thoroughly enjoyed it for the most part.
|
I got semi-spoiled on the Jefferson twist so it wasn't really shocking unfortunately but it was still a good run.
Enjoyed the time travel elements. Enjoyed the overall plot and characters and setting. Great aesthetics and music and so on.
My only gripe was the ending felt a bit anti-climactic. I kind of gathered they were going the sacrifice Chloe route so I was geared up a bit more to make the choice (I chose to sacrifice her because it felt like the universe demanded it etc.
I also think Chapter 5 was a lot of padding and little substance. What was there was great and genuinely quite dark and disturbing. The nightmare was definitely troubling in places but downright silly in others. I actually think with the darker elements there was some genuinley quite haunting stuff in there and it did have an effect on me, which a lot of media doesn't so kudos to them for that.
Just wish they'd done a bit more with the B characters at the end. I cared a lot more about Warren and Frak and all those other fucks who quite honestly felt like tertiary background noise to MAH CHLOOEEE who I never much gravitated towards anyway because she came across as such a spoiled brat.
Good game though. Not really interested in the prequel beyond reading up on it though.

ya, I'd give the prequel a shot tbh. I think I'll end up liking it at least as much as the original if not more, the dialogue especially has improved a lot which was one of my biggest gripes with the original
tho

it is much more about the relationship aspect and there's no sci-fi element to it (or if there is it's way in the background) so based on what you liked about the original I'm not 100% it'd be your cup of tea |

Agreed, BUT if one of his bigger gripes is a lack of connection to Chloe/thinking she's a brat then I think the prequel will go a long way to fixing that

I'm much more interested
|
In the relationship that Chloe and Rachel had. I don't know if it's down to my in-game choices or my interpretation (probably a bit of both) but I was far less interested in any relationship between Max and Chloe, even purely platonically.
I didn't feel like the characters had chemistry based around their personalities or interests, more just the scenarios they were in, Chloe's tragedies and Max's sense of enormous responsibility. Maybe it's just me and again, my choices.
So I firmly believe expanding on Chloe and Rachel's story would be more interesting and would make the character grow on me a lot more, I'm just not that interested in the concept enough to shell out for the game episodically. Maybe when it's done and on sale I'll check it out. |

I'm playing through Skyrim again in the hopes of actually completing everything, or at least the closest approximation to that I can have. For me that means doing:
All major questlines (main quest, civil war, companions, mages guild, thieves guild, dark brotherood, dawnguard, dragonborn)
All daedric quests with daedric artifacts (so getting the Oblivion Walker achievement. Doesn't matter which version of Azura's Star to go for and stuff like that, but matters to get the items)
All words of power
All side quests, or at least as many as I can do before I go nuts. Exception being the Blades quests because fuck killing Parthunax.
Keeping everybody alive where possible (exceptions made for people who have to die during questlines like Vittoria Vici and one random designated follower for Boethiah's Calling. Narfi too :( ).
I'd probably like to kill all the Dragon Priests and collect all the masks but I dunno if I really feel that strongly about it.
Maxed out skill tree (again, I'll probably CBF this because even though it's possible with Hearthfire it's still a bit silly)
I try to do this a few times and generally get bored. However this is the closest I've come. I've done Dawnguard, Mages, Thieves (except the final quest, still doing jobs for Delvin/Vex), Civil War (choosing Imperial. I can never side with Ulfric no matter the save), Companions. I'm holding off main quest until I do the rest but I'm pretty close. I'm on the quest to fight Miraak for Dragonborn and I'm about halfway through Dark Brotherhood, I started that one kinda late. I've done all the Daedric quests and a huge chunk of the side quests.
This is made much harder by the fact that I am playing on console so there's no unofficial patch or mod fixes and a few quests are already fucked up beyond the point where they're beatable. I am very sad that I cannot inform Leifnarr's family of his death and they will go on thinking he's a deadbeat but Bethesda demanded a blood sacrifice in the form of something broken and so it had to be done.
Reaching the point where I'm tailing off interest now so I'm not caring as much about character deaths. Which brings me to my avatar...
I thought it was quite funny to hang out on the top of one of the redoubts, shooting arrows down at the hapless Forsworn who ran around frantically. I also thought it was funny that J'zargo was running about down there instead of up by me with his tail flapping about frantically. Me and my girlfriend had a good laugh about it and I went about my arrow rain-down despite not hitting a single Forsworn and carried on my merry day.
About seven fast travels later, I noticed J'zargo was not with me, and I began to panic. I have Companion's Insight, so reasonably it shouldn't be POSSIBLE for me to kill him. You cannot kill a companion in combat, it's physically impossible. But he wasn't there. Had he got stuck or been left behind somewhere like I accidentally did with Telvyn Sedro for about 2 hours?
I retraced my footsteps to the Forsworn camp and took out the Briar Heart and the other assholes who were lurking about. Then I saw him on the steps. Stone dead, tail no longer flapping about.
And the PS4 version has a nice quick-save feature, but it uses the same slot each time and I will forget to persist saves beyond that. I had fast travelled too many times for my auto-saves and my last persistent save was four days worth of playtime ago.
I had recently given up a day's playtime to save Meeko, because I just couldn't bear the pain. I gave up around five hours of playtime to rescue Sceolang. I sadly, and with the heaviest heart, could not bring myself to undo four days for J'zargo.
I dragged his body to the canal and gave him a hero's send-off. May your road truly lead you to warm sands, my friend...

I had a very similar experience with Kharjo. Khajiit followers are the best. Very sad. |
