What a shame. S1 was absolute gold, one of my favorite seasons of a tv show ever. I was really hoping they'd take their time a bit more with S3

Skip the anthology and save the series by making it the Rust/Marty show again!!!!
I thought the show would work as an anthology but uh..not so far. I liked the idea that it made sense to end Rust/Marty's story because IRL these detectives would only have one wild case like that, but if bringing them back and making some new story around them is the only way for the series to continue then I'm all for it tbh

Is s2 worth watching? | "So, uh, what are we saying here? If we save LA from a nuclear bomb, then you and I can get together for dinner and a movie?"

eh! Only if you're bored. I enjoyed some parts and some performances. If it had come before S1 I probably would've liked it more, it was just really rough in comparison

yeah overall I'd say no. There were a few transcendent moments that reached S1 heights scattered throughout, but they were VERY few and far between. You could tell the writing was rushed

I watched it last night and thought it was pretty damn good. |
Yeah, so almost three years later I'm finally really watching this show. I'm only three episodes in, starting the fourth, but I'm loving it. I wound up on the Wiki page for the book The King in Yellow after going down an H.P. Lovecraft rabbit hole, which made me remember the titular character (or at least his title) had some sort of role in True Detective. So I dove on in.

I'm gonna have to catch it on either HBO GO or by catching it on TV. |
What did this even mean how else would I have watched it.

Just finished season one. I really enjoyed it, but I think I would have loved it even more if more was given to the motivations behind everything at the end. With the rituals and everything and what they thought they were getting out of the theatrics of it all. Though the way that Marty shut down the two black detectives before the could really hand out some exposition and said he didn't care about the specifics was a fun way to play it, a nice tease.
I guess I'll go on with Season 2 even though the reception for it was lukewarm.

Lukewarm is an understatement tbh! I watched it all, and it does have one or two moments worthy of praise...but it's incredible that the two seasons are part of the same show when compared to one another.
The thought of a return to True Detective with Rust/Marty is interesting, but personally I don't even think that could save the show. The case can be made that the story of the occult murders could be picked up again in a sequel, but the appeal was always the characters, and I think
Rust/Marty had a definitive end to their arcs. It feels like it would cheapen that to bring them back for another season, especially given that the only reason they would be doing it is because Season 2 bombed so hard.
That said, I'd happily be proven wrong. It would be a shame to leave the series hanging with the mess that was last season

Deadwood creator David Milch is on board...
I'm warming to the idea of a season 3
