I pre-ordered Pokemon Moon and now I want to buy other games (Rise of the Tomb Raider, Dishonored 2, Mafia III, and Titanfall 2 specifically), but I'm trying to wait until Thanksgiving week because a) Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals, b) birthday money, and c) paycheck money.
But Green Man Gaming has a sale going on and I'm so tempted...

I'm still trying to wait before buying more games, so I started up Dishonored, which apparently I haven't played in 3 years. Whoops! Maybe I'll actually finish it.

Just finished up Mafia III. Some thoughts for those contemplating still. No spoilers, just thoughts.
|
Overall I enjoyed it a lot. The story, the characters, the cutscenes, the acting -- all fantastic. Really like the documentary feel. Lincoln Clay is a great protaganist. The villains are dicks and the anticipation to finally give them theirs is definitely looming all game. The music, as I mentioned before, is one of the best I've seen in a video game that is not only good for simply driving around, but fits in perfectly for every cut scene. (Personally loved "Paint It Black" during a particularly traumatic scene and "Hold On (I'm Coming)" for your drive to the final mission). The city is done very well with each section having it's own very distinct feel and there are a lot of places to explore for the six categories of collectibles. The gun play, as always in mafia, is challenging and just busting through the door to take on everyone is never, ever an option. The kills in this game are also very, very satisfying. Deaths are incredibly brutal and gruesome. When you stealth kill people, Lincoln fucking butchers them with his knife and blood sprays all over the place. Shooting people will literally riddle your enemies with bullets, sometimes leaving them helpless on the ground clinging onto life and coughing up blood.
Two things I don't like:
It's pretty repetitive. I'd compare it to the first Assassin's Creed game where you had to accomplish a certain amount of tasks to draw out the boss and then defeat them. Here you do pretty much the same thing. Steal this, kill this person, interrogate that guy, then kill the boss. Every single boss, capo, etc follows this pattern. I understand the idea of what they did here, but doing it throughout the entire game is tiring. Especially disappointing for the Mafia series as the last two had "chapters" with new stories, missions, twists and turns. Here you don't really get that at all. Though to be fair, Lincoln is not part of the mafia unlike Vito and Tommy, it's all about revenge and redemption. Still, I would have preferred for some more story and plot in the middle of the turf war.
The other thing is the AI. Holy fuck is the AI stupid. There's a lot of stealth in this game and you can get through the majority of the strongholds by just whistling someone over and murdering them. They will always fall for this and unless there's another guy standing right there, it will always work. Guys will see dead bodies on the floor and not care at all (they will just utter to themselves silly nonsense like "this man has lost his life" or "this guy is in heaven now"... who does this when they stumble on a dead body in their own house?), won't scream for help or anything which makes the picking up bodies feature quite useless. Cops also have nerfed AI to the point where the police is not a factor in this game whatsoever. Cops have always had advanced AI in Mafia games, to the point where you must obey traffic laws or you will be pulled over for a ticket. This was a GOOD thing. It made the game stand out and was different. Here, the police will never care if you drive reckless unless you hit a cop car or run a person over in front of them. And even when they pursue you, they're easy as hell to escape by simply driving out of their circle with no challenge at all. Also unless you commit crimes in front of cops, expect to never see them as in the midst of a shootout, only one person will run to call the cops. They will get a marker over their head and if they're taken out, nobody else will even attempt to do it.
Granted -- I played on normal difficulty so I have no idea if this stuff is harder on the other ones.
Solid game though and worth a pick-up. Those who never played Mafia before will probably enjoy it more honestly. |

Starting up Last of Us and Uncharted 3.
So far I like UC3 much better honestly. The puzzles are top notch and are really fun to figure out. I find them a lot more challenging in this compared to the other two. The fighting sequences have also been a lot of fun, which is sort of my biggest problem with the series as they come off more annoying and a chore than anything. And it seems like problem solving takes more of a priority over annoying combat sequences which is awesome. Also really like the new character Cutter and I cannot wait to kill the villain. Just beat the boat mission and it was the most fun I've had in the series thus far. Such a cool level.
TLoU has been incredible so far, which is saying a lot as I only just got through the section after you meet Ellie. I can't marathon survival horror games very well as they can be pretty frustrating for me so this one will be a slow burner. Especially with The Clickers. Jesus christ is that nightmare inducing.
Well done Naughty Dog. |

Clickers are easily the most intimidating zombie I've seen in a game. It's so nervewracking trying to sneak around them. I would hoard shanks like they were gold

I bought Titanfall 2 and I'm like "Why am I doing this to myself?" because I don't even know when I'll have time to play. I barely started RotTR.

I started Titanfall 2 and I like it even though the single player campaign is generic.

I forgot about the campaign and just played multiplayer games in Titanfall 2 tonight, but I got a miraculous midair melee kill on a guy who, after failing to shoot me, was about to melee kill me after a wallrun.

Finished Uncharted 3... and Uncharted 4.
UC3 was easily the best of the PS3 bunch. Thought the story, setting and puzzles were all way better than the previous 2. Sully being much more active in the story was great as he's my favorite side character outside Nathan. And the ending was extremely satisfying.
4 was amazing and I honestly liked it better than the PS3 games. The visuals, graphics, improved setting and gameplay -- all blew me away. Discovering the story of the pirates and their colony almost eclipsed the story of the game itself. The acting was great. Sam was an amazing character. Rafe was a great villain. All the little things and callbacks to the previous games was a great treat to go through, especially that little scene in the attic where Nathan reminisces over all his artifacts from the previous three games and then has a pretend gun fight with the toy gun. But I'm incredibly sad to learn that it's the last game in the series, I feel like having two more games on the PS4 with the new system would have been so much fun. I kind of understand why they did it, but I'm still holding out hope for a spin off or something. I'm conflicted on whether or not I should be excited for the movie.
Still need to play TLOU, I haven't touched it since that last post. |

Ugh hearing good things about Uncharted 4 makes me really want to get a ps4. It would be such a waste of money though | "So, uh, what are we saying here? If we save LA from a nuclear bomb, then you and I can get together for dinner and a movie?"

I dunno, it's been money well spent for me. The exclusives have been worth it alone. I'm highly considering getting Playstation Vue as well to replace my cable deal. I hate my shitty cable company and I refuse to ever go back to DirecTV again.
Playing Until Dawn now, another PS exclusive I got on a whim. It's very much designed like Telltale with you having multiple choices throughout the game and it's main selling point is that the choices you make will decide everyone's fate. It's about a group of 8 friends in a cabin and you control each one at different times, which I really enjoy as they're all different personalities and being able to play as the bitch, the nerd, the jock, the hero, etc and molding how they act throughout the story is very fun. Although due to all the characters and choices so far, I'm a little worried on whether or not this is another one of those "choice" games that ends up being the same no matter what albeit with slightly different ways of getting there. I do really hope there is a scenario where everyone can die or all 8 can die.
Not sure how to feel about the Dr. Hill scenes yet but Peter Stormare is pretty funny in the role.
