I think I would too. I was interested when the trailer came out but then forgot about it, but the reviews sound right up my alley

Trainwreck - meh. I liked the scenes with LeBron but I was surprised how boring and formulaic most of it was. |
Just saw this. LeBron and John Cena were the best parts of the movie. Dave Attell too, if he would have gotten more screen time. Aside from playing Where's Waldo with stand-up comedians, it really was kind of a snoozefest.

Anybody else here seen Horns? I caught that movie a few weeks back. I'm a big Harry Potter fan so I didn't know if I could even watch the movie without thinking of
Daniel Radcliffe as Harry the whole time, but he did great! His American accent was decent, it only got wonky a few times when he said certain words or raised his voice. Pretty interesting story also.

The Gift - well-made but god was it depressing |
|
lol I didn't think it was that depressing. After reading your post I kept expecting the absolute worst during the whole movie. I thought the box at the end was gonna have his dead infant son in it!!!!
It was pretty good. I was a bit let down after the reviews tho. I kept reading that it subverts your expectations and goes in directions you would never guess, but it was all pretty standard really. In fact a ton of it was eerily similar to Creep which I had just watched so nothing surprised me too much. The trailer gave way too much away too
Well made like you said though, cinematography/directing/music/acting was all real good. I did like it overall and the realistic characters kept it pretty grounded. Wanted to like Bateman's character but BOY was he a dick in the parking garage! |

well I mean, Gordo possibly raping Simon's unconscious wife is pretty fucked up too (: I meant it more in that I came away feeling EMPTY rather than being really disturbed by anything though
I think it did subvert genre expectations pretty well, like one example being the scene after Simon's promotion when they start hearing those noises around the house. In a lot of movies that'd be the climax where the antagonist starts picking them off one by one or whatever, but it turns out it's MacDonald who then sets off Simon's downfall. Though with that said, there were some pretty obvious things like the recorded conversation at Gordo's dinner party. I was 100% sure it'd either be revealed that Gordo was listening just outside or was recording it since the dialogue was just too convenient
And yeah I liked that the longer the movie went on, the more you realized that Gordo's less of a creep and more of a guy getting his deserved revenge. Although the ending kinda tipped the scales back the other way |

I really liked Trainwreck actually! Like 20 minutes too long, but it was a very strong character story, even when it wasn't always super funny. I was surprised my theater laughed as much as they did honestly, although it was in Cleveland, so naturally you could barely hear anything going on when Lebron was onscreen.
I think the bit when |
Schumer is repulsed by Hader telling her he loves her after her father's funeral |
is a good example of how low-key and character-based the humor is.

The Station Agent
Really CHARMING movie. It reminded me a bit of Rectify in its simplicity and focus on the smaller moments

I love that movie. I have trouble not watching it anytime I see it playing on Showtime, or whichever channel it is that plays it semi-regularly.

I saw it a few weeks ago. I loved the vibe and the setup, and thought that he did an awesome job. I have a lot of criticisms, though. I think the parts that I loved give more credit to the original book, Daniel Radcliffe, and Juno Temple than the director or the screenwriter.
I feel like it unraveled toward the end and I wasn't happy with the last third of the movie. Seems like one of those situations where the book couldn't successfully be transposed to a screenplay. The flashbacks felt awkward, and I felt little-to-no connection to his brother or his lawyer. They really spent too much time with scenes of him going to random places and having people confess. While those were fun, the movie would've had a larger impact if they made us feel a larger attachment to the brother/lawyer and...

I hate it when they "reveal" the killer and the person suddenly turns into a psychopath. The fact that he was the only one who believed him made it so obvious he was the killer, and I get the impression the book supplied better foreshadowing. The shotgun scene and the subsequent Patrick Bateman laughter was SO far from the rest of the tone that it took me out of the movie. His "transformation" scene into a Devil did not make sense on any sort of metaphorical level and it didn't resonate with me. Once again, I am under the impression more information about the protagonist's inner psyche would've made the ethos of his actions clearer. |

X-Men: Days of Future Past
watched this on a whim today, pretty good. Definitely had a lot better ideas + real stakes compared to most Marvel movies. And I had never watched an X-Men movie before so it was kinda fun finding out all their abilities since I pretty much just knew Wolverine's and Quicksilver's

If you'd never seen an X-Men movie before I imagine a lot of Days of Future Past when over your head because it ties together two different timelines of X-Men movies from the previous four movies. | Nintendo Network ID: EctoCooler47 |

The Gift -
oh men oh men this was great. I went in more or less blind and I recommend you guys all do the same. Only thing I will say is that Jason Bateman is actually perfectly cast.

Z for Zachariah
HMMMM. The acting was really great (Robbie especially), as was the atmosphere...not sure about the actual story though
|
Chris Pine was so overtly acting as a wedge it almost seemed like it was being played for comedy, but I'm not sure if that's even what they were going for? The tone was kinda weird with that stuff
I also didn't really see a POINT to the whole movie. Like at first I thought it would just be an examination of two lost souls finding each other, but then it turns into a bit of a paranoia/jealousy thriller which gets resolved ambiguously and then it just...ends |
Definitely was an interesting watch though

Hits. It's a David Cross movie Mr C and I picked randomly and then by some weird chance it is actually a movie about Liberty, New York which is where I grew up. So strange since it's such an irrelevant part of the world and an odd place to set a movie, but I got nostalgic watching it and recognized a good chunk of the area.
Also, it sucked. |
