It looked interesting but I heard it was hooooooooorrible. Worth watching Zersch? |
I believe horrible is a bit of a stretch, but I could easily see and understand people not enjoying the movie. Parts of it did come across as a little "weird for the sake of being weird", and it felt like a strange amalgamation of some of the movies Gosling has starred in. Like he took a little bit from each one, melted it down and built this out of it. Then garnished it with a pinch of Blue Velvet and Requiem for a Dream.
I would say it is worth watching, but I'm pretty forgiving. I enjoyed the visuals and liked the storyline, especially the weirdness of the fetish club. It was pretty short too, so it's not that much of a commitment. I think it was only an hour long.
Now I'd really appreciate it if It Follows would surface. | |

I watched The Change Up last weekend with Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds. It was alright, there were some funny parts. And some really fake/unrealistic comedic moments. I love Jason Bateman, but he plays the same character in every movie he's in, which is okay because I love Jason Bateman, ever since his days on The Hogan Family. :P
Edit: I didn't watch the movie along with Bateman and Reynolds, in case there was any confusion. ;)

Handful of movies for a handful of days:
-
The Pyramid
It was okay, nothing special. I liked the Egyptian theme but the Anubis monster was p. bad CGI.
-
The Lazarus Effect
Not very good. Could have been cool but fell pretty flat. A waste of Donald Glover.
-
Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones
I kinda liked it. Reminded me of Afflicted, the found footage vampire movie. I've only ever seen the first in this series other than this one.
-
The Interview
I laughed at things so I guess that means they succeeded. Probably would have been disappointed had I bothered during the (literal) nuclear hype it was getting a year ago.
-
Nebraska
Initially I was sort of bored by it, but by the end I had enjoyed it quite a bit. Always fun to Buzz McAllister pop up in a movie.
-
John Wick
Pretty much everything I look for in an action movie. Thought it was p. awesome.
-
The Maze Runner
It was alright I guess? Maybe if I had read/been a fan of the books I'd have been more into it. | |

I thought Marked Ones was not very good. I really liked 1 and 3 and I'll keep watching them but I don't think they'll ever get as good as those two. | Nintendo Network ID: EctoCooler47 |

Taken 3
Far too much taking, not enough giving imo.

Run All Night
This was the vastly superior movie in my Liam-Neeson-is-an-old-badass-murderer double feature. I thought this one wound up being a pretty good mob movie too. There were shades of Running Scared in it, and I can appreciate that. And I'm a Vincent D'Onofrio mark because of Law and Order. | |

Predestination
Just watched this and quite enjoyed it. Every time I thought I'd figured out what was happening it would shift to the right just a little. The less said about the movie the better for anyone who hasn't seen it.
---
Foxcatcher
Thought it was really good, and wonderfully uncomfortable. Any scene that had du Pont wrestling around with the team, or attempting to show them how to do maneuvers... glorious cringe. Somehow I didn't know anything about John du Pont either, so I got to let the movie walk me through the gist of his insanity.
---
Hercules
Expecting nothing but cheese and big dumb action from it, I thought it delivered. I love mythology and The Rock so naturally I was going to like something about it. Apparently it's based on a specific graphic novel. It kind of reminded me of that King Arthur movie with Clive Owen in the way it handled certain aspects of the myths.
---
Seventh Son
Even as an easy mark for fantasy movies I couldn't really get into this one. Jeff Bridges was alright tho. | |

I saw Unfriended last night. I walked in with really low expectations and ended up enjoying myself. A lot of the movie was stupid, like when the main character was typing on iMessage, the background noise got dulled and it felt like they were trying to hard. Almost every death was stupid or predictable, however a few of the deaths worked great. The pacing at the beginning was slow but it quickly picked up, and got tense. Not gonna lie though, a lot of the teenage drama was really stupid and tacky. Horrible beginning, began to get heated/intense and I enjoyed the movie after the first death and in between each death. The deaths themselves were really stupid, but the parts inbetween the deaths were (in my opinion) innovative and interesting. Not a single character was likable, but I think it helps with the overall theme of the movie. This movie is basically the Maury of movies. Tacky but tense.
My favorite scenes were....
|
The scene with the printer paper. I thought that was fucking amazing and intense. Basically when there were 4 left, two of them got printed papers from the ghost. If they show the other two what their paper says, then the other person is forced to kill themself. It was an amazing scene that made me gasp when it was revealed what was on paper. I also liked the 5 finger scene, even if the things they were saying were cringingly tacky, I still liked how we learned that none of the characters were really rootable or heroic and they were all assholes to each other. I liked the Val death scene, when the phone was going off on camera but everyone thought that the cam was frozen. I also liked the Kenny death scene before the blender got involved. The cam inside the room was cool and creepy even if I called it a mile before it happened. I also like how as the movie goes on, you learn that every single teen in the movie was a bit of an asshole and they go from stupid promiscuous teens to sluts, backstabbers, and incredibly naive. |
Despite a great buildup, I think the ending was a let down. However, a lot of my friends thought it was the best part, so that might just be me. It might just be because I came in with low expectations, but I thought the movie was decent... just also REALLY tacky. Deserves it's higher-than-expected ratings. Warning, you will not like a single character in this movie. | |

Also the movie was HILARIOUS, sometimes intentionally and not intentionally. | |

I watched Blackfish. I would recommend it but It was so sad seeing how they treat those whales and seeing a baby Orca being captured and torn from its mother while the mother screams and mourns. :( | |

Furious Seven
I haven't watched one of these movies since they were still about street racing. I enjoyed it, in a munchin' popcorn kinda way.

Get Hard
"Prison Rape Jokes: The Movie" would be an accurate alternative title for the movie. I laughed more than a few times but it all started to wear thin by the end. | |

I watched The Marine today. Well, I watched the first half hour, and then fast forwarded to the last 15 minutes. lol I can't say I liked much about it, but my expectations were not high anyway. The scene at the gas station before anything happened was the best part of the movie. I guess it was the anticipation that you knew something was about to go down. | |

Ex Machina
Very good. Not sure how I feel about the climax, but it had lots of interesting ideas and great performances, especially Ava's | |
