Is your ranking what you think will win or which you liked the best? Surprised you liked Whiplash more than Boyhood if it's the latter, tho I did too. Whiplash was amazing

Birdman>Whiplash>Boyhood for my favorites. Haven't seen any of the others

yeah just what I liked best. Boyhood's definitely gonna win

and it may just be recency bias putting Whiplash over Boyhood right now. They're pretty even. But Birdman was def my favorite

Selma was decent but it doesn't hold up to a lot of the others. It was slightly disappointing to finish the marathon with just because the other 3 managed to exceed my expectations somehow.

I thought Grand Budapest Hotel was a great way to start the day and everything about Whiplash and Birdman was great.

Again, Selma was a good movie, it's a story everyone should learn about and David Oyelowo was fantastic but it just stood out to me as not holding up with the others. Perhaps it's because I saw 3 other movies the same day, idk.

I loved the experience and will absolutely do it again, but it's harder to digest. You finish the movie, and 25 minutes later you're immersed in another great story.

Personal rankings [Renting Boyhood this week]

1. Whiplash
2. Birdman
3. Grand Budapest Hotel
---GAP---
4. The Theory of Everything
5. Imitation Game
6. American Sniper
7. Selma

Hardest part about making my list was not putting the top 3 as 1a,b,c and coming up with a ranking. I can also see myself flip flopping on those 3 when I have more time to think about the stories and everything about the movies. Extremely high expectations of Boyhood. I expect it to win Best Picture based on everything I've heard from you all, and read online.

Also, we were supposed to get a $5 AMC Credit on our Stubs Card [Redeemable only today, for anyone who did the showcase] to spend on movie tickets or snack bar, but there was a glitch in the system early on and no one got their money. They fixed it by the end of the first movie but for some reason our card was never credited.

We kindly went to guest serviced before Selma (longest break of the day 55 minutes), and they credited us with $20 for being so patient and understanding.

Also, I have always been the type of person who will pick a great TV Series or Mini Series over a movie, but I'll be damned if a day like today with quality movies from the start doesn't have me motivated to want to rent and watch more movies on the regular.

Birdman- 9/10

In terms of technique, filmmaking, and acting- it's a masterpiece. For some reason I felt the message to be a little heavy-handed and I'm never a fan of endings like that. I'll definitely rewatch tho. I think the hype also made me a little disappointed.

The Imitation Game

I liked even though I'm not sure how factual it was. The characters portrayal was pretty good I must admit.
I used to travel the universe, but settled for parks.

Boyhood. Excellent film. I fully expect it to walk away with the win next weekend but I personally would probably rank it 4th on my list behind Grand Budapest, Whiplash, and Birdman.

Boyhood was definitely an experience, fascinating.

Glad I went out of my way to watch all of the nominated movies prior to the Oscars.

Out of curiosity what makes you rank Budapest so high? I've seen a good amount of other people say it was one of if not THE best movie of the year too. I enjoyed it a lot, especially from a technical perspective, but it's not really something that's stuck with me like some other movies this year have (Birdman, Whiplash, Boyhood...possibly Gone Girl and Interstellar)

The Loft

It was really hard to care about any of the characters and their dilemma because they were all top flight cunts. Towards the end it felt like the movie was elbowing me in the side and saying "wouldja lookit that" as it dumped its twist-filled payload. It almost always annoys me when, after a twist, a movie flashes back a montage of scenes from earlier in the movie instead of just letting it happen without a guided tour through the explanation.

Inherent Vice

This movie perched precariously on the line between keeping me interested and boring me to death. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it really - I didn't think it was bad, I just don't know. It seems like it would benefit from a second viewing, but I'm not sure that I'm up to that task right now. It wasn't until it was almost over that I was finally able to keep all of the names of characters that weren't Doc or Bigfoot straight.

Sounds very much like your typical Paul Thomas Anderson movie. Punch Drunk Love is the only one I can say I really liked. Magnolia wasn't bad either.

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water

Excellent, excellent movie.

I was so bored...by the time they got out of the water, I didn't care about the movie anymore. My 3 year old cousin asked me to go. I would never have seen this movie otherwise. I am somewhat familiar with SpongeBob, but I didn't like this movie very much, at all. lol Parts of it were funny, but not as many as you'd think.

Been too busy with ACADEMICS lately... haven't been able to see anything. Last I saw was Whiplash, which was indeed amazing. It was so relentless and focused, and the music scenes were remarkably tense. It has a kind of drive you don't really see from indie movies.

That said it has a few absolute shit scenes, most of which involve Miles Teller's character being in the real world. All the stuff with his girlfriend rang false, and that dinner scene where his cousins or whatever were being praised was so on-the-nose.

But that ending tho! And JK Simmons! All great.
