there's nothing wicked about action movies today except CGI and explosions.... |
|
i actually thought of that movie being the opposite of what i critized. there was another recent action movie i saw which i thought was pretty cool/decent. but i don't know what it was....maybe later i'l recall | "There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die."

Yeah that's what I meant. There's still SOME action movies that aren't mindless

Expendables 2 spoilers and discussion

I thought it was pretty obvious that it was suppose to be an action parody when Stallone used a motorcycle to take down a helicopter. Same with all the phrases from other movies! They where definitively trying to make fun of action movies and themselves and I thought it worked well! Van Damme is just hilariously bad at acting and had me laughing through the whole movie
I really enjoyed the movie entertainment wise which it was suppose to be. It was never suppose to be a thought inspiring oscar winning masterpiece.

I liked Drive too. I always liked Van Damme movies growing up. I will see E2 sometime. I saw the first one not too long ago.

Finally got around to watching FOLLOWING, the last Nolan movie I hadn't seen. Definitely his weakest movie, but it was pretty good considering it was made for almost nothing. The ending was great, even though it was really contrived
Also watched Brick. Pretty hard to follow at times but overall I really liked it. Gordon-Levitt was really good in it

Watched The Untouchables, great film, loved the chemistry between Kevin Costner and Sean Connery. De Niro was good as always.

Last movie I watched was Unforgiven, which was very good. I loved Gene Hackman's character especially (well, loved to hate him). That ending was... so badass. |
I legitimately thought it would end along the same lines as Red Dead Redemption where he just shoots a couple of them but then gets blown to pieces. Wasn't expecting what really happened at all |

I finally got around to watching Tree of Life. I really didn't know what to think. It's hard to describe it as a movie really. I enjoyed it and it did things to me. I'm normally not a fan of ARTY films that are trying to be thoughtful/philosophical but this is the first time I was genuinely moved and engaged by one. A lot of the sequences and ideas really touched a nerve with me.
Very good cinema, but hard to describe as a movie per se.

Rewatched Evolution and Collateral recently. Pretty decent films although Evolution gets a bit silly
