Just got back from a gig in Grimsby, a town which is as shit as it sounds. When we arrived there was barely no one there except for some Eastern European dudes who couldn't speak much English. They quickly became our number one fans. They liked the heavier stuff like Deep Purple and Black Sabbath.

During the first set the pub was quiet, but by the second the place got a lot busier. And much more chaotic too. Our sound guy threw someone to the floor as he tried to invade the stage, and during the encore one of the Eastern Europeans came up to me carrying three pints of Stella which he had bought for us, and was trying to hand them to to me, despite the fact I was clearly busy playing.

As we were packing up this daft looking cunt came up to me and said we should play more 'left wing' songs. I'm pretty sure I visibly rolled my eyes but this guy was too pissed to notice. I said we would next time and thought that would be the end of it, but this guy didn't take the hint. He started going on about the upcoming election and how we, as a band, had a platform and could change peoples minds! I lol'd at the concept of a covers band playing a gig in Grimsby on a Saturday night saving the world from the evil Tories. I told the guy I was apolitical and hoped he would fuck off, but sadly he stuck around. I was so tempted to troll the guy and say I was a Tory, but I couldn't be bothered to deal with the drama. The guy was an utter bore.

As we was leaving one of the cool as fuck Eastern Europeans came up to me and randomly handed me £120. I tried to give it back, but he refused to take it. My bastard of a drummer saw the exchange, and said we should keep it. Ruthless. I was not a fan of this, and tried several times to give the money back, but the guy just refused. I'm half expecting to get a message from some angry Polish guy tomorrow asking where his money is...

Marie Fredriksson, the singer from Roxette, died. She had a great voice.

Who doesn't like deep purple and black sabbath. In the same breath, who thinks of that as heavy stuff these days?

As an aside, I once learned how to play smoke on the water on the bass, Was told it's the world's easiest song, and it must be if my no rhythm, anti-musical ass could do it.

Everyone learns Smoke on The Water when they're first learning how to play anything.

I know that's why you negged it. And that's why I shared that story with you lol

The first thing I learnt when I picked up the guitar was Smoke on the Water. I wish I could say otherwise because it's the cliché thing to do!

Also I'd consider Deep Purple and Black Sabbath heavy.

That's the only thing I ever learned.

Seriously, my musical talent is nonexistent. I took an elementary music class when I was in college. We had to learn piano, and had to number my fingers and turn it into math

3,2,1,2,3,3,3 2,2,2 3,5,5 That's mary had a little lamb.
