We have quite a few in my area. They became the thing like 15-20 years ago and they put them in a lot of places that don't need them. Picture a remote, low traffic highway junction 20 miles from any town.

Nice neighborhood here put them in ... more of a speed deterrent that looked nicer than a speed bump ... and quite a few folks have jumped them.

That's the perfect place to put one, that way traffic in either direction doesn't have to stop when coming to that intersection. It helps save on fuel consumption.

Circular driveways are great.

Roundabouts are far safer than a stop sign or light intersection - that's the main reason why they're put in.

I should say, that's the main reason why they're put in in rural areas. For higher traffic areas they're also better for overall throughput. Double whammy!

A nearby town has a really small one in the middle of town. Twice I have seen semis have to just drive right over the middle of it.

It's not a truck route, and there's no escaping once you are up to it.
