Yeah, most people seem to have enjoyed it. It's about an evil mirror...OR IS IT?? It plays up the psychological angle big-time. Worth checking out once imo. | Nintendo Network ID: EctoCooler47 |

Oculus
It was neat. I could have probably paid more attention at the very beginning. It's a definite surprise that it was made under the WWE films flagship, but it could have really used The Undertaker or maybe the ghost of Big Boss Man as a character.

Open Grave
Could have been great, but it was just good. Still, I thought it was p. cool. Guy wakes up in a pit of dead bodies with a gun and a case of amnesia. He is rescued by a small group of people suffering from the same fate and tries to figure out which one of them is responsible for all of the dead bodies they keep stumbling across.

What We Do in the Shadows
Comedy horror mockumentary from the creators of Flight of the Conchords about four vampires from different time periods living in a flat together and the shenanigans that ensue when they sire a younger "modern" vampire. I really enjoyed its weirdness. Reminded me of an episode of the Office, if the Office was about the trials and tribulations of vampires and werewolves.

I remember seeing trailers for that but I hadn't heard anything about it (or really thought about it) in a while. Glad to hear that it was good. I used to be a fairly big Flight of the Conchords fan back when they were actually still making stuff. | Nintendo Network ID: EctoCooler47 |

Yeah, I was super excited for it earlier in the year, like around Spring, and then never heard another thing about it so I forgot all about it. I would have continued to forget about it until it popped up on bluray/dvd if I hadn't come across it on some random person's 'best horror of 2014' list.

Currently watching Coherence.
I'm loving it, everything is great, and I'm hoping for a good payoff. I need to make a chart when I watch this movie again.

I liked it, but I think that it violated its own rules at times. Ending was very fun.

I"ve been reading up on fan theories about the movie and stuff, and apparently:
|
During the final scene when Emily is going to kill the other Emily and replace herself, different bits of her clothing change and people are thinking that there were at least 3 Emilys if not more in that one scene and that, considering Emilys were not seen at many of the houses, that Emily had killed herself a few times in other universes. There were 6 "totem items"- Paddle, Coaster, Oven Mitt, Stapler, Napkin, Monkey which means there were at least six houses. |

Apparently whenever a major decision is made is when the blackout thing happens, which is what I thought was silly director bullshit, but it turns out it's how they're creating so many universes. They're creating them by making decisions, and then they're getting flipped back and forth between them. |

I need to watch Coherence again. Would take a fresh viewing of it for me to even attempt to discuss it.

Deliver Us From Evil
"Based on a true story" - yeah, sure. I thought it was entertaining but there was nothing original about it. Except for the casting of Joel McHale as a knife fighting police detective. The police station exorcism scene was pretty intense but I liked the first half/lead up to the supernatural shit more than the second half where everything is laid out there.

Zodiac
This is the second time I've seen Zodiac and I liked it just as much as I did the first time. At this point I'd say it's probably one of my favorite movies, and I'm not even hugely into serial killers as subject matter in general. I watched the director's cut this time around but I didn't really notice anything substantial that was changed, just a five minute runtime difference. For me the movie gets really good when Gyllenhaal takes the case into his own hands in the second half, following endless leads as an amateur detective. The phone calls, the basement scene...gah, so creepy and eerie, especially knowing that it's all based on real events. Some people think it's too long but I respectfully disagree. | Nintendo Network ID: EctoCooler47 |
